Air-catching, Jaw-dropping Freestyle Biking In Hout Bay
The best Mountain bike and BMX freestyle riders in the world descend on Cape Town for this annual party at Potato Trails
It’s time for a night of extreme biking, attitude and lots of noise when the Night Harvest descends on Hout Bay. This event brings BMX and mountain bike freestyle tricksters to Cape town on 8 March 2019.
WHAT IS THE NIGHT HARVEST?
This is a dirt jumping event featuring some of the top names in BMX and mountain bike freestyle riding. It’s hosted at a scenic spot in Hout Bay called Potato Trails, with the Hout Bay mountains creating a scenic backdrop for riders and spectators.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
It’s like Motocross Freestyle, but with mountain bikes. Riders swoop through a track consisting of several jumps, dropping down a steep ramp to build momentum, and using that to get big air for tricks and poses. Their performances are rated by a panel of judges to find winners in various categories. There is also a trick competition where riders use one jump to show off their best tricks.
WHAT ELSE CAN WE EXPECT AT NIGHT HARVEST
Besides the air-grabbing and bike gymnastics, there is also a live DJ and food trucks from various vendors. If you bought VIP tickets, you get complimentary food and drinks vouchers and access to the rafters, with a perfect view of the entire track. Regular tickets aren’t bad though: the track runs through the general spectator area, giving awesome views of the riders doing their stuff.

From the MTB side, spectators can expect Canadian superstar Matt MacDuff, who once suffered a broken wrist in SA after a big drop on the Loop Of Doom in the Garden Route Trail Park. Also riding MTB are Tomas Zejda from the Czech Republic and local boy Theo Erlangsen.
