Watch Penguins Be Released At This Festival in Simon’s Town
There’ll be food, craft beer and a play area for the kids, but this time Rover’s not allowed (sorry)
Cape Town is famous worldwide for the penguins at Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town, and next weekend you can watch a few rehabilitated birds waddle back to ocean freedom: SANCCOB is holding its Annual Penguin Festival on Saturday, 5 October, 2019.
IT’S A FUN-FILLED FAMILY DAY
The 17th Annual Penguin Festival starts off at Seaforth Beach at 10am, and it’s a wonderful day out for the whole family, especially the little ones. The public will be able to watch the rehabilitated penguins make their way back into the ocean; these penguins were rescued when they were found either ill, injured abandoned or oiled. After their release, the focus moves to the Simon’s Town School in Harrington Road, within walking distance from the release site. Parking will be available at the school’s hostel.
The festival will feature educational exhibits, food stalls, boerewors rolls from the SANParks Honorary Rangers and a designated craft beer and wine area. Entry is free, although there is a charge for children to play in the Kid’s Zone at R50 per child. No dogs are allowed at this event.
PARKING AT THE ANNUAL PENGUIN FESTIVAL
Parking for the beach release will be available at the Navy’s parking at the end of Martello Road. You’ll be able to walk up Whaler’s Way to the main road’s pedestrian crossing to reach the festival, following the signs from the beach release. There is a stop-and-go drop-off option outside Simon’s Town School on Harrington Road. Parking for the festival will be available at the school’s hostel at the top of Harrington Road.
