Cape Town has its own drink. Here’s what it tastes like
Cape Spritz is Cape Town’s summer drink – here’s why + where to try it
Last updated: Tuesday, 7 February 2023
When our friends from The Duchess Drinks Company told us they’d bottled Cape Town in a new summer drink, we knew it was our duty to test it and report back (tough job, but someone’s gotta do it). The results are in: It’s the perfect poolside beverage, drinkable and super refreshing – plus, our team agrees it tastes better with a sea view, especially after a long day in the office. Here’s what you need to know about Cape Spritz and where you can try it.

TASTE CAPE TOWN ON TAP
Cape Spritz combines some of the best things Cape Town summer has to offer: The winelands (it’s made from sparkling Swartland Rosé), fresh fruit (it’s infused with natural peach) and the beach (it’s served with a sea salt rim).
The result is a peachy, pink drink that looks like sunset and tastes like a mix of Bellini and rosé, with bubbles. It’s served on tap, so it’s always chilled. Prices vary depending on where you have it, but starting from R50, it’s a pretty affordable tipple.

TRY CAPE SPRITZ AT THESE 12 PLACES
Cape Spritz is made for sipping with an ocean view. Some of Cape Town’s favourite summer spots are now serving it, including Sotano in Mouille Point and Rockpool, Strolla and Mojo Market in Sea Point.
We love these Promenade gems for their laid-back seaside vibes. Go for a walk or run on the Prom and cool down afterwards with a Cape Sprtiz, or arrive straight from the beach or office with your crew. Even better, up your step count for the day and go on a Prom crawl after work – taste the Cape Spritz at each place, starting at Sotano in Mouille Point, stopping at Rockpool in Sea Point and finishing at Strolla on the Bantry Bay end of the Prom.
You can try a Cape Spritz at these places, too:
Tindlovu Camps Bay
Judd’s Local
Fireman’s Arms
Boschendal
Bloemendal Trail Park
The President Hotel
Fool’s Gold
Two4One

WHAT TO EAT WITH A CAPE SPRITZ
Cape Spritz pairs perfectly with light summer bites. The CapeTownMagazine.com team taste-tested it with a table full of sharing dishes from Sotano. The French-style mussels, steamed in white white and light cream, were a hit, as was the grilled calamari, which comes with chorizo and roasted chick peas. The flat breads are big (we really liked the Mediterranean) and especially good for sharing.
