Places to get it on in Cape Town
We’re bringing sexy back to the city with these romantic spots
Last updated: Friday, 11 February 2022
People say that the most romantic cities in the world are Paris, Rome or even New York. We beg to differ. Cape Town ticks all the boxes. Gorgeous beaches: check. Incredible hiking routes: check. Wine farms galore: check. We are even in the top 10 places to skinny dip in the world.
In the spirit of romance and bringing sexy back to the city, we have rounded up some of our favourite romantic spots in town to spice up your love life. Whether you are old lovers, new lovers, one-night stands or even friends with benefits, these spots are just the trick to get those endorphins rolling in.

SAY CHEERS WITH WHISKEY AND WINE
Try out this super-vibey wine and whiskey bar in town. YOBO is a great place to get a little wine drunk with your partner while listening to great music. If you’re feeling a bit frisky (I mean risky), check out their bathroom. Beware: there’s a large mirror on the ceiling (unless you’re into that sort of thing).

DISCOVER A LOVER’S NEST IN THE WEST COAST
Take a stroll along the beautiful Schaap Trail in Yzerfontein. It's an easy trail with beautiful views, plus you will find an open cave called the “Duiwenes” along the way. This little lover’s nest is best when you get low … I mean during low tide, when you can walk through the cave to the sea.

TAKE A RIDE ALONG THE SEASIDE
Is there anything more romantic than a sunset drive along the most beautiful road in the world? Chapman’s Peak Drive goes on for 9km and has a number of picnic spots and places where you can park your car along the way, perfect for a quick pit stop or sundowner. And if you’re lucky, the sun won’t be the only thing going down at this spot.

HIKE TO A HIDDEN PICNIC SPOT ON A MOUNTAIN
This one's for the exercise junkies. Jonkershoek Nature Reserve has a hiking trail that leads up to a picnic table on top of the mountain. It’s a 2-3 hour hike and is best done early in the morning to witness a beautiful Stellenbosch sunrise (how romantic). The trail is nice and quiet (wink wink), plus, hiking is a great way to pump those endorphins.

GO OLD SCHOOL WITH A MOVIE
Picture this: a retro cinema with a cozy coffee bar, home-made delicacies, a chocolate bar, the smell of popcorn, an outside garden terrace and alcohol. Colour me fifty shades of excited. The Labia Theatre has some great film selections each week, so keep an eye out for those romantic movies, pick a seat in the back row and let that movie magic do its trick.

HIKE TO A ROCK ARCH
Here’s another great hiking spot for our active friends. Hiking Muizenberg Peak from Bailey’s Kloof is quite a steep hike of 5.6km, but the views are unparalleled and there isn't a lot of foot traffic. Plus you get to spot a rock that looks like it came out of the Flintstones show, so go get your yabba dabba doo on.

GET SPOOKY IN A FOREST
For our freaky friends, we have a great spot for you to live out your Blair Witch Project fantasy. Discover this little abandoned cottage in the Newlands Forest, near the main road. It is dark, dingy and 100% spooky. Warning: it gets really wet and dark inside, so enter with caution.

SNUGGLE UP AT A CITY LOOKOUT POINT
Take a stroll under the city lights and experience the sensation of la vie en rose at this stunning lookout point in De Waterkant. It is hidden in an alleyway in Loader Street and gives you a full view of lower Cape Town. It’s so romantic, you’ll want to slow dance in the street with no music and whisk your lover off the ground.

GET WET AND WILD AT THIS WATERFALL
Here’s another hiking trail, but don’t worry, this one has something special up its sleeve. The Bainskloof Waterfall Hike has not one, not two, but three waterfalls and pools for you to splash into. It's R50 per person and you get to spend the day cooling off after your…uhm…physical pursuits.

GET COZY IN A BEACH CAVE
There’s a reason that a Sex on the Beach is one of the most popular cocktails. With Summer fever, bikini bottoms and sun-kissed skin – it’s always a little hotter at the beach. Luckily for you, Cape Town has loads to choose from. The cave at Llandudno beach is a great spot to share an intimate moment with your partner.
Fun Fact: It is legal to skinny dip in South Africa.
