Go Long This Reconciliation Day Weekend
Recognise the past, celebrate the future and make the most of the long day of reconciliation weekend this year
This Reconciliation Day, there are many ways to celebrate being South African: Visit Iziko Museums (it’s free), listen to a local celebrity perform live at a concert, shop at a summer market – braai, of course. It’s one of our favourite pastimes, afterall.
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN HISTORY
All Iziko Museums are free on Reconciliation Day, so it’s a good day to explore all there is to offer. There are tributes highlighting Madiba’s contribution to the fight against apartheid at the Iziko South African Museum, or visit the Singing Freedom exhibition at the Iziko Slave Lodge, where you’ll learn about the background to many of our famous freedom songs. At Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum you’ll meet The Effendis of 71 Wale Street, Bo-Kaap. It’s an exhibition that honours the lives of the Effendi family who lived in the house in the 1970s.
Dates: 16 December 2021, 09.30am-3.30pm
