Ibiza’s famous Rumors by Guy Gerber comes to Cape Town
This is a Friday in Ibiza with a Cape Town crowd
Last updated: 17 December 2024
Friday nights in Ibiza are like a movie. Especially when you party at Rumors, the iconic event series by famous DJ and producer Guy Gerber, featuring top-tier DJs at one of Ibiza’s best beach clubs. Expect the same energy and setting of “bohemian escapism” when Guy Gerber debuts Rumors in Cape Town on Friday, 27 December.
“It’s a chance to give people who aren't well versed in electronic music a taste of something that really moves them,” says Gia Hensburg, marketing and brand manager at Golden Hour, the organisers of the event. She shares more insider insights with us (like why you should get there early, mixes picked by Gia to get you in the mood, and more).

Since then, it’s become an iconic party series that’s all about electronic music, bohemian vibes and top international DJs.
It’s a very pinch-myself-moment that we’re bringing it to Cape Town: We’re trying to make all these big brands that are born in Europe, more accessible to our South African audience.
Guy Gerber started Rumors and grew it into a global phenomenon…
He’s consistently rated one of the best acts in dance music, and for the last three years, he’s been listed as a top 10 performer on Resident Advisor (a renowned online music magazine).
His extended sets, like his 12-hour performance at Burning Man in 2014, are incredible. The first track I heard of his was “Bocat”, it’s an earworm, you listen to it once and it's stuck forever.

The stage design is going to be one of the biggest…
Rumors has a signature style, and we have our team interpreting it. We’re going all out and transforming the venue to make it a cocoon for us to experience music.
The venue, Grand Africa Cafe & Beach, also gives Ibiza beach club vibes with its ocean views and white loungers on the sand.

You need to come early because…
Rumors is gonna be the most dayest day party ever. You know that feeling when it’s peak season, Christmas is over, it’s not quite New Year’s Eve, but every day feels like a Saturday.
The whole country is feeling summer. You’re gonna want to be there early. Doors will open at 2pm and the first set will be bouncy, fun and light, the perfect way to ease into your day.
I can’t wait to see…
Desire, whose set kicks off at 3.30pm at the outside stage. She’s super edgy and avant-garde, like a living piece of art. She’s 70s retro in the new age. Everything about her is artistic, I can't wait to see her on stage. She also has an incredible voice.
OMRI., who’s performed at Afrikaburn, will perform next. His music is an incredible infusion of house with a psychedelic twist inspired by his days in the trance music scene. It’s an immersive sound experience, simplified into house music so it's easily digestible for everyone to enjoy.
And of course Guy Gerber. He’s doing a three-hour set (from 7pm) which is rare for Cape Town events. It gives him the chance to really take his time and take us on a proper journey through the night.

It’s like an after-party at the party….
Because you don’t have to leave the venue to experience a different vibe at the inside stage, where the dance floor will feel like you're in a club.
Expect feel-good, bassy magic at 10pm, blending disco and classic bouncy house vibes for an unforgettable experience. The sound is a fusion of it all, perfectly curated to keep the crowd moving.
The night will end on a high note with a set full of raw, powerful energy and dedication to the art of music.
