Race At Your Own Pace, Without Any Pressure
Try something new and conquer obstacles (mental and physical) at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch
Conquer epic obstacles, have fun, and be surprised at how amazing, strong and capable your body is at Runstacle, hosted at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch on Saturday, 28 December.
The organisers of the large obstacle course race (OCR), The Grind Race, have created a scaled-down weekly fun run using a few of their obstacles so that anyone can try an OCR and train their techniques.
Organiser Teri Muller says, “I quickly noticed that families and groups that do not necessarily do obstacle activities, loved the concept of doing a 'race' at their own pace, without all the pressure of a large event.”
FROM FIRST-TIME RUNNERS TO SEASONED ATHLETES
It’s suitable for all ages and the event has seen everyone from the age of 4 to 78. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and you can take the time you need. Some people speed through the course two or three times every week, while others take a good hour to slowly work through the course. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult for safety reasons.

OBSTACLES, CHALLENGES AND NO PENALTIES
There are fifteen obstacles comprised of balance beams, climbs, walls, “dom-krag” stations, mud or water crossings (if water is available from the borehole or it has rained) and a few technical obstacles with names like Battering Rams and The Irritator. The obstacles are challenging but doable, and you can take your time figuring out how to defeat them.
There are no penalty activities if you skip an obstacle. Participants should have fun and push themselves only as far as they can in the moment. There is always next week to try the obstacles again.

MAKE A DAY OF IT
The Cape Town Ostrich Ranch is a farm with ostriches and cheetahs. When you finish, coffee and drinks are available, as well as breakfasts, burgers, sandwiches and ostrich dishes. The area and lawn is beautifully manicured beneath tall trees, with a view of the cheetahs and farmlands as well as a play area for the kids. Benches, tables and chairs are available outside on the lawn, under the trees or the terrace.
