Ready? Get Set. Go On A Scavenger Hunt Across The South Peninsula
You’ll need three team mates, a car, dress-up gear and a winning attitude
Grab your capes, ponchos, moustaches, tutus, wigs or onesies and scavenge your way to success at The Fish Hoek 100 And Beyond Scavenger Hunt. It’s a fun team event that spans a four to six-hour self-drive hunting down clues from Noordhoek to Simonstown to claim a grand trophy.
It’s suitable for families and all ages are welcome. Last year, one team boasted an average team of 74, and they’ll be back for the 2019 version. The event takes place on Saturday, 26 October, starting at 11 am (but teams have to be present at 10:30 am).
HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Teams are made up of four members. On registration on the race day, each team receives a sealed and top-secret race pack containing a list of fun challenges and tasks that must be completed within a specific time. Team members drive in one car and race other teams to solve the puzzles, which are all set in the South Peninsula, from Noordhoek to Simonstown.
The Scavenger team leaders constantly monitor all teams. There are no age restrictions and all challenges are achievable – no-one will feel at a disadvantage. It’s all about creativity, teamwork, time management, humour, public participation, competition and collaboration.
WATCH: A TASTE OF WHAT TO EXPECT
AN EYE ON THE PRIZE
There’s a floating trophy, and the winning team’s name will be engraved on it, plus there are other prizes for the most creative team, best-dressed and other awards. Prizes are donated by sponsors and local businesses in the area.
Teams will start and finish the race in Peak Academy cafe on Main Road in Fish Hoek. There will be food and a full cash bar at the start and finish.
GIVING BACK TO THE FISH HOEK COMMUNITY
The event will be donating some of the proceeds of ticket sales to Shark Spotters (a shark safety and research organisation in the South Peninsula), as well as by collecting items for distribution among women from Masiphumelele township, near Simon’s Town. These items will be collected as part of the race's challenges, so are top-secret until the day.
ATTENDING THE FISH HOEK 100 AND BEYOND SCAVENGER HUNT 2019
Tickets cost R250 per person and there must be four participants per car. Tickets can be booked online. Bookings close on Sunday 20 October at 5pm. For more information, contact info@scavengerexperience.com. The rules can be found online.
In 2018, the event hosted 22 teams. The response was so good that they have extended it to allow for 30 teams (four people in each). A limited number of 120 tickets are available in 2019 and are selling quickly.
