Indoor roller skating park in Cape Town
Skates, play some pool, kick back to the resident DJ or play in the arcade
Cape Town’s first indoor roller skating rink has something both parents and kids will enjoy. With the occasional themed night, kids, teens and parents can skate around to the music from Dirty Dancing, Grease or The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Most nights, you’ll get to skate around to the classic throwback songs of the 70s and 80s at Rollercade at Battery Park in the V&A Waterfront.

GLIDE AROUND AN UNDERGROUND DISCO JOL
Inside the emptied-out parking garage in parking level 3 at Battery Park, you’ll have plenty of space to skate around – over 2000 square meters to be exact, says Rollercade co-owner Guy Bubb. Since the area is underground, the moving pink, blue, green and yellow disco lights with the pumping live music from the DJ booth creates a vibrant atmosphere for the skaters.

TAKE YOUR TIME AND FIND YOUR FOOTING
It does take a while to find your groove and steady yourself on your new set of wheels. Before you glide away, you may want to suit up and really look the part of the 80s rollerblading athlete. They’ve got knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet you can slip on before your skate. Bonus: this might be the one place where the protective gear helps add to that retro style. There are also training frames to keep you stable and two or three skate instructors on duty ready to help.

THERE’S MORE TO DO THAN SKATING
For those who would prefer to keep their feet on the ground rather than on wheels, there are plenty of other activities to keep you busy. Apart from the rink itself, Rollercade is also home to an arcade area, a photobooth, an air hockey table, two pool tables, and a VIP party area parents can rent out for the kids.

The tables, chairs and bean bags are all set out and ready for you to use, parents just need to bring their own food and drinks to the party. Pro tip: if you bring your own skates it’s R80 per hour compared to the R150 per hour with rented skates or R40 per hour if you just want to enjoy the arcade.
WHEN + WHERE TO GO
Rollercade is open: Wednesday, 1pm - 6pm; Thursday to Friday, 1pm - 9pm; Saturday, 10am - 9pm, Sunday, 10pam - 6pm
