Let There Be Peace and Unity and Let it Begin with Food
People from all different walks of life once again share a meal around the Table of Peace and Unity
If there was ever any one thing that could bring people together and make peace it would be food. Good food is always good, whether you’re a lover or a fighter, a celebrity or a politician. Christine Cashmore had a vision of a single table around which South Africans of all walks of life would share a meal and in doing so support their community.
She founded the Table of Peace Unity in 2000, against all odds. Since then it has become an annual fundraiser supported by sports icons, celebrities, politicians and community heroes. Even sworn enemies happily enjoy a five-star luncheon knowing that their contribution will go towards helping someone less fortunate. With a table of 700 set right on the slopes of Table Mountain, what better place from where to view the beautiful city we live in and recognise the needs of the community.
This year the funds raised will go towards supporting the City’s Angels – meaning everyone who is doing something to help care for vulnerable children in their community. The public is encouraged to nominate suitable candidates by calling in to Heart 104.9FM or visiting their website. The City’s Angels will be announced on 18 April 2010 at the Table of Peace and Unity Event. They will receive their funding in the form of supplies needed to continue doing their good work.
