South African Wine Tasting Championships
You could represent South Africa at the World Blind Tasting Championships in France
Calling all wine-lovers! Whether you’re a professional blind taster or just an amateur that drinks enough wine to think they might be a professional, this competition is for you! Taj Cape Town in Wale Street will be hosting the prestigious South African Wine Tasting Championship Cape Town Provincial leg on Saturday, 3 June 2017.
The competition is open to anyone and everyone who thinks they have what it takes to correctly identify wines during a blind tasting. A blind tasting entails attempting to identify wines which are served in anonymous decanters. You are only allowed to taste and smell the wine and then you have to correctly guess the varietal, winemaker, terroir and age.
Prior to the blind tasting, entrants will be invited to taste over 50 different wines from renowned wineries and thereafter compete in the Blind Tasting room in an attempt to correctly identify ten previously tasted wines. Participants will get points for correctly identifying the cultivar, producer, vintage and region.
Get ready to battle your opponents in an attempt to decipher the various notes and aromas of the world’s finest wines. Best performing competitors (competitors who manage to correctly identify the ten wines during the blind tasting) will stand a chance to join the South African team at the World Blind Tasting Championships in France. The South African Wine Tasting Championships is the only South African wine event with an international outcome.
After the competition, the best competitors will undergo intense training in preparation for the world challenge, where they will be exposed to international wines, readying them to fight for the world title in France later this year!
The venue is the perfect place to tantalise and test your discerning palates. The Taj Cape Town is set in the historically rich heart of the Mother City and exudes opulence. It is spread over two grandeur buildings that have been timelessly restored to their original historic splendour.
