SPAR Women’s Race in Cape Town
Ladies, lace up your takkies and join 21 000 sisters when this popular charity road race trots into the Mother City
Last Updated: 16 March 2017
Wonderful women of Cape Town, get your running shoes ready! The time has arrived for the annual SPAR Women’s Race to get underway in Cape Town. Spectators and athletes alike can participate in all the fun-filled action on Sunday, 2 April 2017, after which the event heads for Port Elizabeth, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg.
As usual, there will be two races this year, a 5km challenge that’s perfect for beginner runners and the longer 10km route that gives women with endurance the chance to strut their stuff. This event is also wheelchair friendly, and participants are welcome to walk or run the race.
Eager entrants can win cash prizes if they finish in the top three of their category, and the first 10 runners from the open category to cross the line will walk away with a bit of moola too. The first 21 000 runners to collect their race number can get a free goodie bag, lifestyle magazine and a T-shirt, and the first 21 000 runners to cross the finish line will take home an achievement medal.
The beneficiary of this charity event is Operation Smile South Africa. SPAR will donate R5 from each entry to Operation Smile, an organisation that facilitates free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial anomalies for children around the world.
