Stand-up paddleboarding in Cape Town’s canals
Giant party boards that can fit a helluva lot of people + unsinkable kayaks
Stand up paddleboarding is the comfortable middle between surfing and kiteboarding, but better and a lot easier. Along the canals, at the V&A Waterfront, there are no waves to disturb you or knock you off your board. Besides the occasional school of fish, you're left to soak up the sun and enjoy your day with SUP Cape Town. Plus, there are giant party paddleboards and virtually unsinkable kayaks if you'd prefer a bit more stability when you're out on the water.

GLIDE OVER THE CANALS ALONE OR WITH A PARTY
The 3km loop around the Waterfront canals is a leisurely route you can do in your own time. If you're coming with friends or family, take a look at SUP Cape Town's largest board, the party board. It can fit a helluva lot of people, but generally, it can hold between 8 to 10 boarders.

Pro-tip: if you aren't the most confident water baby out there, SUP Cape Town co-owner Guy Bubb recommends you opt for a thinner and smaller SUP board. They're a lot easier to manoeuvre, but it all depends on your size and stature. They've also got virtually unsinkable kayaks, says Bubb. The Fluid Kayaks are perfect for those who are energetic and want to play around but stay above the water… and dry.
ONE QUICK LESSON AND YOU’RE FREE TO GO
Before you head out onto the water, dedicated SUP Cape Town instructors help you to find the right size board. You'll also run through a quick introductory lesson, covering all the necessary basics. Then you’re free to enjoy the day.
