It's always a good time to help the environment. Join Friends of the Liesbeek on the first Saturday of every month to help clean up the Liesbeek River, and get a small reward for your efforts.
THIS IS HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
On the first Saturday of every month from 4 January to 3 October 2020, Friends of the Liesbeek, a non-profit organisation, gather to clean up the stretch of river from the N2 to the River Club. The initiative is named T.R.A.S.H which stands for Taking Rubbish Away, Saving Habitat. Volunteers meet around 8.30am at The Wild Fig restaurant on Liesbeek Avenue. The organisers provide trash bags, but encourage helpers to remember to bring their own non-disposable gloves and boots (because things can get messy).
If you can't make 8.30am, feel free to join the rest of the group at any time. Look for the Friends of the Liesbeek banner opposite The Wild Fig's parking and you'll find some spare trash bags. If you can't make it at all but want to contribute to a worthy cause, consider making a monetary donation to co-sponsor a cleaner. For more information on sponsoring, email the organisers at trash@fol.org.za.
After a rewarding, hard day of work, head back to The Wild Fig and enjoy a cup of coffee on the house.
WE SHOULD ALL BE NATURE'S FRIENDS
Friends of the Liesbeek is a non-profit organisation founded in 1991. Their goal is to create awareness of the importance of the Liesbeek River as a "green corridor in an urban setting". The river runs through the quaint, trending neighbourhood of Observatory near Cape Town and is unfortunately heavily polluted.
