The TriRock Robben Island Triathlon
Heritage meets a hard-as-nails competition at this unique Cape Town sports event
There will be four times the fun this year when Cape Town’s most famous offshore heritage site hosts the fourth annual TriRock Robben Island triathlon. The popular sporting event takes place on Saturday, 21 November 2015 with two triathlons to choose from and two separate runs as well.
As always, the event gives athletes the unique opportunity to explore Robben Island more intimately than most tours allow. More specifically, triathletes will swim in the frigid waters of the harbour before cycling and running through and around many of the island’s landmarks, including the limestone pits where prisoners did hard labour.
If you think you are up for the challenge, then bring your family along to support you from the side-lines. There is plenty to see and do for everyone on the island.
RACES FOR THE 2015 TRIROCK ROBBEN ISLAND TRIATHLON
There are four races for the day; two triathlons and two runs. The short triathlon (4:14:4) consists of a 400m swim, a 14km cycle and a 4km run, whereas the long triathlon (8:28:8) will see athletes completing an 800m swim, followed by a 28km cycle and an 8km run.
In addition, there is a 14km and a 28km Freedom Run to choose from if you would rather not face the brisk Atlantic Ocean swim.
