Why you’ll love LG’s QNED Mini-LED TV
LG’s newest and most premium LCD TV, now available in SA
LG’s QNED Mini-LED TV is a “revolutionary leap in the world of modern television”, says LG. Top tech magazine Wired backs that up, saying that LG’s display is one of the top performers of 2021. That’s because QNED Mini-LED tech has taken LCD technology to new heights, delivering better contrast, more accurate colours, and HDR quality far beyond conventional LCD displays.
Here’s how.
LG’S NEWEST, MOST PREMIUM LCD TV
Mini-LED, a new backlight technology for LCD TVs, is the biggest development in televisions in 2021, says Wired. The “mini” here refers to the thousands of tiny LEDs (light emitting diodes) used for backlighting – up to 30 000 in these new screens – compared to the few hundred that traditional LCD TVs have.
This means it delivers better contrast, more accurate colours and HDR (high dynamic range) far beyond conventional LCD displays. The human eye has a very high HDR, which is why we can see detail in highlights and shadows, so these TVs deliver an image closer to what we see in real life.

The QNED Mini-LED TV not only delivers on visuals and sound, it’s a beautifully designed set that looks good in any room. LG'S 75-inch QNED Mini-LED 90 Series 4K Smart TV is available in South Africa from October 2021.
WHY THE DEFINITION IS SO REMARKABLE
You know how when the scene is dark it’s sometimes really hard to see what’s going on? That’s because conventional LCD TVs only have a few hundred LEDs for backlighting, which means light is unevenly distributed and poorly controlled and sometimes bleeds into the dark pixels or creates a halo effect around objects in a darker scene.
By contrast, LG’s QNED LEDs are a lot smaller and there are loads more of them, so the light is brighter and more precise. The contrast ratio is an impressive 1 000 000:1, compared to a typical LCD display of 1 000:1.
There’s also the Full-Array Local Dimming feature (there are 2500 dimming zones!) which intuitively dims the light source behind a zone of your screen to match the demands of the picture.
YOU EXPERIENCE MORE REFINED, RICHER COLOURS
There are a number of reasons why you have a richer experience overall.
Thanks to LG’s state-of-the-art Quantum Dot NanoCell color and Mini LED backlight technologies, the TV delivers a stunning viewing experience with deeper blacks, more accurate color reproduction with greater contrast and brightness.

NanoCell uses nanoparticles to filter and refine colour impurities for more accurate and richer colours, while Quantum Dot colour enhancement uses semiconducting nanocrystals to boost the brightness and widen the colour gamut. Also, the resolution is 4k – four times more pixels than the standard full HD television.
IT OPTIMISES THE PICTURE INTUITIVELY
This display comes with a 4th-generation α9 AI processor that utilises deep-learning algorithms to analyse scenes. It categorises them into four scene types — Scenery, Night, City and Other – which adjusts and enhances the picture quality based on what you’re watching.
It also comes with Dolby Vision, which is essentially an upgraded version of HDR, which also optimises for a broader range of contrast and depth of colour.
THE SOUND DELIVERS + SYSTEM IS GOOD-LOOKING
For gamers, the sharper definition and colour enhancement will bring added pleasure, but everyone will be pleased with LG’s QNED Mini-LED TV.
In the same way that the screens have been optimised for a specific genre, the LG AI Sound Pro identifies voices, frequencies and effects according to the genre and enhances them.
The TVs also come with Dolby Atmos, which adds a height dimension to sound and “places individual sounds more accurately within the ‘soundscape’ of your living room”, says LG.
Finally, cinema lovers will appreciate this: it can also boost two-channel sound to convincingly recreate 5.1.2 surround sound, allowing cinema-lovers to watch older classics with more immersive audio.
IT’S A NEW BENCHMARK FOR LCD TVs
If you’re looking for a TV then this is it. LG has certainly set a new benchmark for best-of-class LCD displays, and its 75-inch QNED Mini-LED 90 Series 4K Smart TV is available in South Africa from October 2021. To get your hand on one and find out more, go to LG South Africa.
