There’s snazzy play areas and wine cellars at these revamped Spur branches.

Spur Steak Ranches has joined the Veganuary revolution. The famous family restaurant now serves the pioneering vegan Beyond Burger, with the plant-based patty that is taking the vegetarian market by storm thanks to its satisfying texture and rich flavour. In addition to the Beyond Burger, there are two more plant-based dishes to choose from.

WHAT’S THIS VEGANUARY THING?
Veganuary (that’s vegan + January) is all about trying out the benefits of eating like a vegan (for a month). The official ‘challenge’ encourages people to add more veggie variants to their diet in January, but also throughout the year. There are many benefits: health, a collectively lighter footprint on the planet, and it is better for animal welfare, to name a few.
Spur Steak Ranches has heeded the call, and now is also offering vegan options. But in true Spur style, it’s serving the tastiest vegan patty around. This means that diners eager to join Veganuary can still get their favourite Spur flavours, and maybe even tempt their meat-eating friends and family to try vegan, too.

TRY THE BEYOND BURGER. IT REALLY IS REMARKABLE
Beyond Beef products are growing in popularity and fast. They’re made up of a variety of plant proteins, including the pea, mung and faba beans, fats such as cocoa butter and coconut oil, minerals including calcium and iron, and flavourants all from plants (no GMOs, soy or gluten).
This makes the Beyond Burger both substantial and juicy. Biting into the Spur Beyond Burger (which costs R129) gives all the same satisfaction as the traditional meat burger. It’s also served with all the sides customers have come to love and lust after: crispy onions rings and golden chips.
THERE ARE TWO MORE OPTIONS FOR VEGETARIANS
The Veggie Schnitzel is a crumbed schnitzel (at R82.90) that has a chicken-like texture and flavour, and is served with a sweet chilli sauce (it also comes with sides of chips and onion rings).

Then there is the Crumbed Veggie Burger (at R76.90) with a chicken-like patty, also served with sweet chilli sauce.
It’s worth noting that all vegan and vegetarian products at Spur are cooked on a separate skillet on the grill to avoid contamination.
“As a family restaurant, the most important value for us to embody is inclusivity, which in our opinion is synonymous with the meaning of family,” said Kevin Robertson, chief operating officer, Spur Steak Ranches in an interview on Bizcommunity.com.
That means more people (vegetarians, people trying out the vegan lifestyle and meat-lovers) are now catered for at Spur with a range of choice on the menu.
