Aaldering Vineyard & Wines |
A five-star pocket of privacy and peace in the heart of the Cape Winelands at this bed and breakfast accommodation on a working wine farm
If you’re looking for a place to wind down, to retreat from the hustle and bustle of life and to luxuriate in peaceful calm surroundings with stunning vineyard views, then the luxury lodges at Aaldering Vineyards & Wines in Stellenbosch’s Devon Valley is just the place. Here, the three five-star Dutch Cape-style guest houses, located in the centre of this quiet working wine farm, offer a rejuvenating retreat. It’s a place where guests are made to feel that it is their own wine farm and their own little piece of heaven.
Aaldering Vineyards & Wines is picture-postcard-perfect, offering spectacular views of the vineyards, the dams and undulating hills. An inviting pastoral calm embraces the whole estate. Guests can watch the sun sink over the grapes as they laze on the lodge’s cosy veranda, fish in the on-site dam, walk the edge of the 24-hectare estate, challenge fellow guests to a game of Scrabble or backgammon, take a walk through the modern cellar or enjoy a free cellar tour and wine tasting under the guidance of Aaldering winemaker and viticulturist PJ Geyer and even help out with the grape picking during harvest season. And, guests can now enjoy a refreshing swim in the recently built 26-metre-long infinity swimming pool with bubble tub, adding yet another dimension of luxury to the overall experience. And, Aaldering Luxury Lodges provide an ideal base from which to explore the scenic Cape Winelands and the historic University town of Stellenbosch, with its many restaurants, nightclubs, bookstores and museums.
The Accommodation: The three lodges are built according to the historic, grand Cape Dutch style with carefully considered and executed interior decoration personally handled by Dutch estate owner Marianne Aaldering, who has added in a number of pastoral touches so guests are fully immersed in a bucolic, farm-style atmosphere. There’s terracotta tiling, slatted wooden shutters, antique wardrobes and ornate dressing tables and a cloud-soft king-size double bed complete with plump pillows. And, for those colder nights, a crackling wood fire in the spacious lounge. But, it’s not all traditional, the lodges seamlessly blend the older features with a number of modern comforts such as the all-white bathroom, contemporary kitchen finishes (the lodges are semi self-catering), Wi-Fi-enabled iPad, flat-screen television and sleek hi-fi system, which make the accommodation deserving of its five-star status. Guests will have their every need attended to by lodge overseer Lunga Soldaat and Hospitality Manager Jacqueline Aaldering who have made it their mission to ensure that guests are made to feel at home and that their stay is truly relaxing and stress-free.
The Breakfast: The fresh country air is bound to give guests a good appetite and every morning, a hearty farm-style breakfast is served in the trendy tasting room. This morning meal is a feast of honey-swirled yoghurt, fresh fruit, crisp bread rolls, cold meats and cheeses, eggs, bacon, boerewors, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. More than enough to satisfy even the hungriest of guests.
The Wine: Included in the accommodation are three complimentary bottles of Aaldering’s award-winning wine: a tropical Sauvignon Blanc, a rare Pinotage Blanc and a rich red Pinotage, all expertly blended by the passionate winemaker, so you have plenty to sip on while drinking in the peace, the serenity and the breathtaking views.
Tip: Lodge guests are entitled to a wine-tasting session and cellar tour. Speak to the Lodge staff to arrange this for you.
The Bill: A stay at one of the Aaldering Luxury Lodges is priced at R3500 per night including the daily breakfast and three bottles of award-winning estate wines on arrival. There’s a minimum stay of two nights.
Booking: To book a stay at the luxury lodges, make a reservation online at Aaldering.co.za or contact the lodge via email estate@aaldering.co.za or phone +27 (0) 21 865 2495.
