4 fully-kitted campsites stretched along the Olifants River
Last updated: 7 February 2025
It’s floating down a crisp river, the sun on your back. It’s the smell of sizzling meat on the braai while friends chat in the hot tub and everybody’s kids splash around in the river. It’s the chatter of birds in the reeds and fynbos and above is a wide-open sky.
This is what you can expect at Wolfkop Camping Villages, which is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Cape Town to Citrusdal. We unpack everything you need to know about these easy-does-it, full-equipped glamp sites.
Wolfkop Camping Villages is just outside Citrusdal in the Cederberg. Image: Wolfkop Camping Villages
Wolfkop’s four camping villages, Golden Valley, Biesievlak, Grootfontein, and Noordhoek, are positioned close to the Olifants River and are within walking distance of each other.
Each villa is a max six-sleeper site on a raised deck. There’s a “master” tent with a king bed and two smaller tents with two single beds each.
It comes with an ensuite shower and toilet, lounge, kitchen, braai, and a wood-fired hot tub.
The villas are truly fully equipped with everything you could need. The kitchen has a two-plate stove, kettle, cutlery and crockery. You don’t even need to bring wood or ice; they’re available for sale at Wolfkop.

Although all glamp sites have the same amenities, each one has a character of its own.
Biesievlak and Grootfontein is great for families as it has the biggest lawns in front of the villas for children to run wild or kick a ball around. It’s also right by the river for supervised dips. You can rent floaties, noodles, kayaks and life jackets.
Grootfontein also works well for group bookings as the villas are close to each other and there’s a boma for a braai and a few drinks.

Different from Biesievlak and Grootfontein, Golden Valley has lots of trees (compared to the lawns and river views of the other two). While the villas don’t provide direct views of the river, they are only 30m from the water's edge.
It’s good to know that Golden Valley can be rented out with Biesievlak and Grootfontein for private events of 100 and more people.
The last glamp site, Noordhoek, is 5km away from the other three campsites. It's ideal if you want a quiet family holiday or private birthday party (it can fit from 30 to 100 people).

You have to try the 20km guided hike to the Stadsaal caves with rock formations and Khoi San rock art. Some of it is estimated to be up to 8 000 years old and shows the majestic elephants that used to roam freely in Citrusdal.
The route is easily accessible and the paths are well maintained and clean. It’s an hour and a half drive from the villages and makes for an epic day trip.
Nearby Citrusdal is also filled with wonderful discoveries, like gin and wine tasting at Piekenierskloof, a factory tour and tea tasting at the Rooibos Factory, or horseback riding at Mount Ceder.
You can also hire a canoe at Wolfkop. Image: Wolfkop Camping Villages
Wolfkop is famous for hosting the iconic Wolfkop Weekender festival, so you know it’s the top spot to throw a party. Whether you’re celebrating your I do’s, a special birthday, or year-end with your team, Wolfkop has loads of space for all the guests to stay over.
Noordhoek is best for groups of 30 to 150 people, and Biesievlak, Grootfontein, and Golden Valley from 100 to 400 people (they set up extra bell tents).
And there’s a bunch of cool add-ons to choose from like fairy lights, jumping castles, table tennis or giant jenga. They can even organise a DJ and bar for you.

And to sweeten the deal, we’ve got a Wolfkop Camping Villages reader special.
So instead of spending hours trying to pitch a tent, you can immediately jump into the water (or hot tub) and cool off after the drive. Or get to know your neighbours and plan a braai night. That’s what camping should be about. At least, that’s what you’ll get at Wolfkop.
Wolfkop Camping Villages is open: All year, 24 hours a day
Find it: 59 Voortrekker Street, 20km outside Citrusdal
Cost: From R1 800 for a villa per night over weekends; from R700 per night during the week
