We love a good potjie, so the idea of a potjiekos contest puts a serious spring in our step! On Saturday, 23 September 2017, Van Hunks on Kloof Street is hosting their annual event that challenges residents of Cape Town to try take home the title of ultimate potjiekos maker.
What better way to celebrate Heritage Day than with some sensational local grub? Eight teams will be participating and guests will be treated to samples of each of the potjies. Van Hunks has one of the most delicious menus in the city, so if you’re not in the mood for this traditional Afrikaner dish, food certainly won’t be in short supply.
Think you’ve got a killer potjiekos recipe? Put your pot where your mouth is an prove it! You can enter Van Hunks annual battle by dropping an email to info@vanhunks.co.za.
All teams can enter with Van Hunks directly for free, and battle it out for ultimate potjiekos domination. They’ll have to bring whatever ingredients they like, hero any protein they desire; all they have to do is make sure there’s enough for everyone and that their potjie is nothing short of delicious. Competitors are allowed to start arriving from 12pm (to start their pot), because it needs to be completed by 4pm. There will be a prize giving at 5pm, and after that everyone can keep drinking!
Customers on the day can pay R50, and in return will be given a score card and a taster of each teams potjiekos The team with the highest total score will win; simple! Not only can guests look forward to some lekker local nosh, but also a selection of wine tastings, gin tastings and even craft beer tastings. There really is no better way to pay homage our SA heritage than with a celebration of locally crafted delights!
