Slip on your ‘fat pants’ and head to La Bottega Restaurant in Woodstock for a bacon extravaganza!
For lovers of a certain kind of cured meat there are four essential food groups: bacon, streaky bacon, crispy bacon and of course candied bacon. And that’s not counting bacon popcorn, which, obviously, counts as well.
If you have a bacon tattoo like Cara Delevingne or would marry Kevin for his meaty surname rather than his killer good looks, then this ode to all things perfectly crunchy promises to be a good time. Once again taking over the lovely La Bottega in Woodstock, the fest devoted to the finest of food groups is happening on Saturday, 5 December 2015.
Bacon lovers will have the opportunity to tuck into nine sensational varieties of pure bacon bliss for five glorious hours. This foodie fiesta is dishing up a feast that honours the meat with a selection of eats. The festival day in the Mother City will be filled with that one-of-a-kind aroma from nine different bacon-inspired dishes. Butler’s Pizza is also on board and will be making bacon and pork pizzas, while a selection of All Gold options will keep things saucy.
What’s more, you can eat as much as you like from this smoky meat menu and there will be a cash bar (card facilities available) for those who need a little extra lubricant.
And if for some reason you need to be convinced that bacon will make you invincible you only need to look to the oldest woman in the world (she’s 116!). She claims the secret to her longevity is– bacon for breakfast. Apparently she has a sign in her kitchen that reads ‘bacon makes everything better’ and we’re inclined to agree.

TICKETS TO THE 2015 CAPE TOWN BACONFEST AT LA BOTTEGA RESTAURANT IN WOODSTOCK
Tickets to Baconfest cost R250p/p and are available online via Webtickets.co.za. There are only 300 tickets available so best you get your trotters on one quickly. There will be two sessions: an afternoon session from 12pm to 5pm and an evening sit-down from 5pm to 10pm. Once the tickets for the Saturday event sell out, ticket sales will open for Sunday afternoon, 6 December, session, which takes place from 12pm to 5pm.
Ticket-holders can choose from the nine bacon-inspired dishes and eat as much as they like.
Free secure parking at Buchanan Square will be available, along with disabled parking. Buchanan Square is accessible by car, Uber, taxi and mini bus services and there will be on-site security 24 hours a day.
Note that this event is a sit-down function and no takeaways will be allowed. Surplus food will be donated to the St. Anne's Homes for pregnant, abused or homeless women and children in Woodstock.
