9 Pools And Water Parks In And Around Cape Town

This list will satisfy everyone from family to friends. Don’t lose it

Last updated: 21 October 2021

From parties and major music acts to spa experiences and sport on TV, these private pools go beyond just splashing around, adding a dash of luxury and turning a pool visit into a memorable experience. There’s also exhilarating fun for the kids in Muizenberg (supertubes anyone?) and another place where they can splash and play for free.

NEW PLAY AREA AND FREE ENTRY FOR KIDS
The President Hotel has a fantastic infinity pool that looks out onto the sea, and you can book a spot poolside for R100 and also eat or drink there. Islands Restaurant serves a buffet and hot breakfasts. Then there’s The Base, with artisanal, wood-fired gourmet pizzas, as well as Botany Café, a deli that creates dishes with fresh and organic vegetables. You can also order drinks from either the DeckBar & Terrace or the Senate Bar. It’s also great for the kids, who get in free and have a newly refurbished play area to indulge in with a jungle gym, jumping castle, ball pit, teepees and dedicated childminders during school holidays. Book in advance to secure a spot.
Price: R100 to get in and R200 minimum spend, no minimum spend for kids.
Times: 10am-4pm

WATCH THE GAME, DRINK COCKTAILS AND DIP
Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa has a plunge pool with a retractable roof, plus a bar that has a flat screen TV behind it, showing any sport you want. If your team isn’t doing well, don’t worry, you can always turn your gaze to the amazing 360 degree view of Table Mountain and the city. You can’t see the TV from the pool, so when the game is done you can get a cocktail and chill in the it with your drink in hand, just like you wanted to. Booking is essential as there is limited space and hotel patrons do take precedence.
Price: Minimum spend of R150 per person
Hours: 1pm-9pm

COOL DOWN WITH PANORAMIC VIEWS OF TABLE MOUNTAIN
Non-residents can spend the day at the Cape Milner hotel’s pool deck if they’re willing to spend R150 and up. There you can relax on a luxurious sunbed and cool off with regular dips in the pool while being served drinks. You could start off with breakfast at 2 on Milner, or opt for cocktails and tapas at the stylish Glass Lounge. With its panoramic view of Table Mountain, the hotel is a lovely summer’s day setting.
Price: Minimum spend of R150
Hours: Monday–Sunday, 12 noon–midnight

HERE’S SOME TWISTY AND TURNY FUN FOR KIDS
They don’t call them “the supertubes” for nothing. The Muizenberg slides are guaranteed, exhilarating fun for kids. There are three different slides: the big twisty/turny slide with lots of bends; the fast adrenaline-rush slide and the children’s slide for the smaller kids. If you’re staying the day, then pack a picnic basket and use the designated picnic area when the kids are famished. There’s also no need to worry about safety – there are lifeguards on duty all day.
Cost: R15 for a spectator, R55 for a one-hour pass, R95 for a full-day pass and R75 for a late pass (2pm to 5:30pm)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 1:30pm–5:30pm; Saturday and Sunday, school and public holidays, 9:30am–5:30pm. For the months of November to end February, the water slides are open on a Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm.

CHOOSE FROM 2 POOLS AND THE ADDED VALUE OF A SPA
Forty two sun loungers line two sparkling pools (one is seven metres long, the other eleven) at this chic boutique hotel in Sea Point, and the entry fee also gives you access to spa facilities such as the steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. But back to the pool: while you’re relaxing in it you can sample the hotel’s poolside menu that includes burgers, pizzas, wraps and seafood. You can also get classic cocktails such as Cosmopolitan, Mojito and Strawberry Daiquiri while lounging around the pool at the Glen Boutique Hotel. They have the nicest staff.
Hours: Monday–Sunday, 8am-9pm all year round.
Cost: R225 (Includes access to the spa facilities)

YOU CAN BRING YOUR PET TO THIS HOTEL POOL
Watch the sun set, drink in hand, while lazing in the Radisson Red’s rooftop pool. That’s what happens if you stay at the Radisson RED Hotel’s swimming pool long enough. This trendy Silo District establishment also offers stunning views of the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain from its pool deck, which also offers sun beds to chill on. When you get hungry, order from the Ouibar + KTCHN, which serves dishes such as toasty broccoli brooms with sesame and garlic, prawn boxes with chilli, ginger and noodles, and sirloin with baked new potatoes. Plus animal lovers need not fret, your pets are more than welcome at the Radisson RED Hotel.
