Ta-Da! Crêperie and Coffee Bar
Coffee and crêpes in the Republic of Hout Bay
Apart from the natural splendour and abundant activities the Republic of Hout Bay has to offer (yes, they consider themselves a republic) this seaside community has become increasingly noteworthy as a culinary destination.
Amongst all the gastronomic treasures of the town, lies a modest gem called Ta-Da! Crêperie and Coffee Bar (part of The Boardroom Adventure Centre). As I approach the bar, I’m met with an inviting smell of freshly brewed coffee. A quick peek through the menu reveals what makes this bar so popular amongst locals; savoury crêpes such as the El Greko (spinach, sun-dried tomato, feta and olives) or Fat Freddy (scrambled eggs, sweet corn, jalapeño peppers and free range bacon) are the perfect way to start your day. For those of you with a sweet tooth, try their Honey Bee Crêpe with honey, almonds and cinnamon, or the delicious What The Fudge, filled with homemade fudge and almonds.
Friendly staff and a shadowed deck provide the perfect setting for a chilled retreat. Catch up on the local gossip, or just steal a couple of quiet moments for yourself under the palm trees. The Boardroom also houses an inventive shop where recycled sailing cloth is used to create items such as bags, dog collars, belts and kite jackets. You can also rent a surfboard or book a jet ski tour while waiting for your coffee.
Next time you find yourself in picturesque Hout Bay, make sure to pop in at Ta-Da!, you won’t be disappointed.
