A charming new spot in the bustling Bo-Kaap offers wholesome food at its best
The recently opened Harvest Café and Deli in the Bo Kaap is a welcome – and wholesome – food addition to one of the city’s busiest neighbourhoods. With a menu offering that ranges from vegetarian and vegan food to more traditional breakfast and lunch options, including some banting items, this trendy new spot is set to become a favourite of both foodies and health nuts.
Owners Sean Moncrieff and Lloyd Becker reveal that the eggs benedict on zucchini fritters and pumpkin fritters are favourites on the breakfast menu at the moment, and rightly so. But then again, all the dishes look delectable and that goes for everything from the taste to the presentation, which sometimes includes edible flowers to add an extra touch of flair!
Initially, Sean and Lloyd were looking to expand their business, The Nice Company, which produces artisanal desserts such as ice cream and sorbets, which is how they came across the spot that is now the Harvest Cafe and Deli. Needless to say, they fell in love with the energy here and, instead of expanding, decided to start something entirely new to best optimise the charming space.
The fresh, modern and simple interior certainly adds to the “wholesomeness” of the eatery. Offering cosy booths in a scenic, open-plan setup, the views of both Table Mountain and city go a long way in adding to the ambience of the place. The free wifi and plug sockets at each booth also makes it the ideal office-away-from-the-office.
And then there’s the spectacular rooftop area that was recently fitted with artificial lawn and now offers beginner yoga classes. From R50/p per session, all you have to do is bring your own yoga mat and towel. There are three classes a week, two on Monday evenings with the one starting at 5:30pm and the next at 6:30pm, as well as on Wednesday mornings at 7am to 8am.
Note: We heard a little birdie whisper that exciting plans are underway for the rooftop space at the Harvest Café and Deli. Apparently it’s happening this summer so best to watch this space.
Tip: Enjoy a wholesome breakfast and a fresh kick of caffeine crafted by the in-house barista after your Wednesday morning yoga session.
