A new Mother City café dedicated to the toasted sandwich
Sitting pretty on Cape Town’s bustling Long Street, Melt – a new café dedicated to the much-loved toasted sandwich – strives to offer customers fast, simple and delicious – not to mention, the best quality ingredients at affordable prices – grilled sarmies and coffee as well as other hot and cold refreshments.
Toasted sandwich options (made with either 70% rye or sourdough bread) include The Breakfast (maple bacon, fried egg, HP relish and cheddar cheese), The Chicky (free range chicken mayo) and The Fig Blue (blue cheese, fig preserve, balsamic glaze and mozzarella), to name but a few of the yummy options. The space itself is quaint and contemporary, with a grey monochrome palette and minimalistic style, not to mention an open plan kitchen so you can see (and smell) exactly what is cooking. Yum!
The menu stays updated and fresh, for example, the divine new additions to the establishment include The BBQ (free range pulled BBQ chicken, caramelised onions, and red cabbage slaw) and The Pizza (sun-dried tomatoes, salami, fresh basil leaves and mozzarella). Better yet, if you are in the mood for something cheesy, we suggest you get The Blue, which has a stunning combination of blue cheese, crushed walnuts, balsamic glaze and mozzarella...DELISH!
Another fabulous addition to their menu is the sweet section. Let's not waste time here...The Cheesecake is probably the best thing you'll buy this month. It has a combination of cream cheese, crushed biscuits and raspberry compote. Yes, this isn't a dream... crushed biscuits on a sandwich - heaven!
Sit down and takeaway options available.
We Love the sound of The Pesto toasted sandwich (basil pesto, Danish feta, peppadews and mozzarella). Looks like a winner!
NOTE: Melt also has two deliciously sweet sandwiches on its menu in the form it’s the Nutella (Nutella, almond flakes and banana) and the S’more (strawberry preserve, Nutella and marshmallows).
Tip: FREE Wi-fi available.
The Bill: Toasted Sandwiches: R30 – R65 | Hot Drinks (medium and large): R15 – R22 | Cold Drinks (medium and large): R10 – R35
