Royal Cape Yacht Club is pleased to announce the running of the 2017 Cape to Rio Yacht Race starting at the V&A Race Village at the Waterfront on Sunday, 1 January 2017.
The race will see teams from all over the world tackle the treacherous trip across the Atlantic Ocean to the carnivale capital of the world; Rio de Janeiro. It will take roughly 20 days to reach Rio, with the race being very far from easy.
This popular race is one of yachting’s greatest challenges, attracting participation from professional and amateur yachtsmen and women, from flat out racers at one end of the spectrum to family cruisers at the other.
The crews this year originate from the UK, the United States and of course from our beloved South Africa. On the morning of the departure, the fleet will be blessed and sent on its merry way to Rio. The first race is set to start on Boxing Day (Monday, 26 December 2016) with the main races following on Sunday, 1 January 2017.
The yachts will depart from the V&A Race Village at the Waterfront. If you want to see all the boats and be at the centre of the action, grab yourself a spot near CPUT or on Signal Hill for the best panoramic view of the start.
TICKETS TO THE 2017 CAPE2RIO YACHT RACE AT THE V&A WATERFRONT
Being a spectator at the 2017 Cape2Rio Yacht Race is free. There may be additional charges if you elect to watch the start from one of the fabulous restaurants at the V&A Waterfront.
