Suicide and self-harm have become a major problem among Cape Town youth, and the Darkness Into Light run is raising awareness about it.
Join this 5km run in Green Point and help raise funds and awareness for self-harm and suicide on 11 May 2019.
RAISING AWARENESS
The event comes to Cape Town for the second time and aims to become an annual event in the city. The walk symbolises the therapeutic counselling journey and starts a conversation about the importance of mental health and wellbeing in our lives. The money raised by the event around the world will go to Pieta House to allow them to continue providing their vital services.
WHAT DOES PIETA HOUSE DO?
Pieta House was established to provide freely accessible one-on-one counselling to people suffering suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm or to those bereaved by suicide. They have 240 qualified therapists in 15 centres and a 24/7 helpline and text service. They can be reached internationally on +353 1 541 4746.
ENTRY FEE TO THE DARKNESS INTO LIGHT 5KM
Tickets cost R150pp for adults over 18, R100pp for students over 18, job-seekers and people over 65 years old. Tickets cost R70pp for kids aged 6–17 and entry is free for kids aged 0–5 years.
Last year’s event in Cape Town raised R194901. The funds raised by the 2019 event will help the event's partner, LifeLine, deliver vital support programmes in the area.
