From Tuesday, 26, until Saturday, 30 April, the Baxter Theatre will be hosting Unchained – a dynamic collaboration between Afrika Ablaze Dance Company and up-and-coming talent from the Western Cape. Expect to be blown away by exceptional choreography, matched by beautiful dancing and a uniquely African spin.
Created by acclaimed choreographer and producer Glenda Jones, this spectacular showcase explores the concepts of freedom, expectation and creative autonomy. Often children and young adults are unconsciously dictated to by the expectations of others, and through this, lose some of their childlike joy and artistry. This performance is a recapturing of that spirit – an unchained celebration of imaginative expression.
The first half will star the adorable and exceptionally talented six year-old Someleze Betela as the lead role, while the second half will feature gifted seventeen year-old Annelize Douglas. They’ll be accompanied by emerging young performers, including Chelsea Samuels, Quisha Dawood and Danielle-Marie Jones, and a medley of inspiring female artists. Expect enigmatic energy, innovative dance, strong storylines and evocative movement as the crew of young dance warriors ignite the stage.
TICKETS TO THE 2015 AFRICA ABLAZE UNCHAINED DANCE SHOWCASE AT THE BAXTER
Incorporating five evening shows and three matinees, there’ll be plenty of performances to choose from. Tickets range from R70p/p to R100p/p and are available from Computicket.com. The performance is an hour and a half and doors open 20 minutes prior to the start of the show.
