The festive season is almost upon us, and with that comes an influx of tourists and a general migration to one of the Mother City’s fine beaches for a day of relaxation and recuperation under the sizzling sun. The safety of the beachgoers is a priority for the City of Cape Town, so to encourage revellers to be responsible they will be hosting a series of free Summer Safety Beach Festivals on Saturday, 26 November 2016 at five beaches around the Cape.
The main purpose of these events is to convey some important beach and water safety tips to the sun seekers who frequent the glorious (and often secluded and inaccessible) sandy spots along our coastline.
The five locations of the festivals are dotted around the Cape Town area to maximise the exposure of the safety tips to the citizens; taking place at Melkbos Beach, Mnandi Beach in Khayelitsha, Bellville Swimming Pool, Muizenberg Beach and the Harmony Park Day Resort in Gordon’s Bay. A series of lifesaving and sea rescue demonstrations will be given to interested attendees.
Aside from the obvious safety aspect of these free events, there will be live performances by some talented local artists on stage to get you in the summer spirit with their tunes. There will be an array of beach games, water activities and kids’ entertainment on the cards too, so you can make the most of the day out with your friends and family.
There will be food and drinks stalls on-site, as well as some arts and crafts exhibitions for those who want to take home a special memento of the Mother City. If you forget to pack the lilo (or you don’t own one), fear not; there will be some quirky and vibrant inflatable rafts and rings for sale at the events as well.
ENTRY TO THE 2016 CITY OF CAPE TOWN SUMMER SAFETY BEACH FESTIVALS
Entry to the beach festivals is absolutely free, so there is no excuse for not packing the beach towels and sunscreen, and heading to one of these majestic venues on the day. The festivals run from 10am to 3pm.
