You’ve heard of full moon hikes and concerts under the stars, but what about a full moon picnic? The Taal Monument is the venue for this family-friendly event, and Paarl is only an hour outside of Cape Town. Take the family to do something different this year, on Saturday, 11 February 2017.
The Taal Monument is dedicated to the Afrikaans language, and is one of the biggest tourist landmarks in Paarl. This beautiful spot boasts stunning views of the Paarl wine valley, and is, in our opinion, the perfect place for a picnic!
The organisers are more than happy for you to bring your own picnic baskets, but just in case you don’t feel like packing a basket, you can order one from Volksmond Coffee Shop. They will delight your taste buds with delicious goodies, produced locally and made fresh especially for you. They will also be open on the night for you to buy some extra goodies, and a nice warm drink. Hot chocolate under the stars sounds pretty lovely to us!
The Full Moon Picnic supports the Taal Museum’s charity endeavour, the Let’s Read project. This initiative aims to bring books to children across the locality in an attempt to get them to start reading. If you have any extra books at home, please consider taking them along and donating them to this very worthy cause. Education is the best gift anyone can receive, and while the festive period is over, the time for giving never ends.
The picnic starts at 5pm, and runs until 10:30pm. At 6:30pm, the organisers will be running a guided tour of the Taal Monument which will shed some light on what the monument stands for, how it got there, who put it there and more. This tour is complimentary for those that have purchased tickets for the Full Moon Picnic.
