If you think of science and technology festivals, the last place you probably expect them to take place is in a bar. That’s about to change when the South African leg of the Pint of Science Festival takes place from Monday, 23 May to Wednesday, 25 May 2016. These two-hour evening science events will happen at two different venues in Cape Town; Empire Café in Muizenberg and at Sgt Pepper on Long Street.
The Pint of Science Festival is a global event that brings the latest news and talks on scientific advancements to the public, all in relaxed pub environments. The space is open for brainiacs to discuss their research and engage in interesting discussions about the global state of science. This year is the first time the event comes to South Africa, and our beautiful city was chosen to host it. A diverse range of topics are on the cards, including Atoms to Galaxies, Tech Me Out, Our Body, Beautiful Mind, Planet Earth and more, that will engage your brain and get you questioning your knowledge.
The aim of the festival is to make science more accessible to the general public, and with the help of 13 expert speakers discussing six themes, you should leave with the proud feeling of having learned something new. What better way to enjoy science that with an ice-cold brew to wash it down.
