The Festival of Yellow, celebrating the canola fields

Where to see the flowers & get a free B-well cookbook

Last updated: 9 September 2024

Every year the Western Cape’s canola fields bloom into a dazzling sea of yellow.

And every year our Festival of Yellow celebrates these golden flowers (with a big thanks to B-well for making this possible).

The big surprise in our fourth year is that we’re introducing a theme for the first time: Cooking with Canola.

Probably like you, it took some of us a moment to connect the yellow fields to the cooking oil that’s made from it, and its trove of health benefits.

So we’re sharing the love with the world by giving you a free cookbook and showing you how to cook with it.

And as always, we have a giveaway for you. See more details on the epic weekend getaway giveaway below.

MAGIC STORY OF CANOLA FLOWERS

The yellow canola flowers carry a tiny brown seed. When it’s ready to harvest, the flower changes colour from green to light yellow, and the flowers drop off and leave seed pods behind.

These tiny seeds are then crushed to produce canola oil. B-well, whose mission is to give consumers a healthier alternative to oil-based products, also uses this oil to produce cooking sprays, mayos, and more.

What started with just 400 hectares has now expanded into a booming industry of over 121 000 hectares. The main production area is the Western Cape, where there are thousands of canola farmers.

COOKING WITH CANOLA (FREE COOKBOOK!)

This is what we’re most excited about this year. Every single one of you can get a great B-well cookbook to play with.

Feastify is packed with recipes designed to feed a family. There’s meals like Moroccan chicken, roast lamb with chimichurri, and slow-cooked beef ribs, a one-pot wonder.

For sides, you could try slow-roasted carrots with tahini dressing and smoky cauliflower on hummus. Find a free copy of Feastify via B-well’s website

SO MANY HEALTH BENEFITS

We love this free cookbook because B-well canola oil is naturally cholesterol free, making it one of the healthiest choices for cooking, according to CANSA

In fact, B-well canola oil is one of the very few oils that caries the CANSA Smart Choice Seal due to B-well Canola Oil being low in saturated fat, naturally cholesterol free and with a light, neutral taste.

Canola oil also has a high source of Omega-3 and carries the Heart Mark from the from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Plus, the B-well range is made from 100% GMO-free canola seeds.

B-well canola oil is the only cooking oil that carries both the Heart Mark and an endorsement from CANSA. Image: @renaldo_17

EVEN VEGAN ALTERNATIVES

People who are vegan or have food allergies will be pleased to know some B-well products, like the B-well mayo, are totally egg, dairy and gluten free.

It’s an easy alternative to regular mayo and you can choose from a bunch of interesting flavours like Garlicnaise, Chillinaise and Lemonaise.

These alternatives make it easier to follow non-vegan recipes. Image: B-well
