The hidden seaside bistro on the ...
Inventive small plates best explored with a wine pairing
Feeling a wee bit frazzled this winter? Take a break from your wet weather woes to explore the beauty and tranquillity of The Universe Within group exhibition at 6 Spin Street.
Showing from Thursday, 18 June until Friday, 3 July 2015, the showcase features a selection of seasoned pros and less experienced but seriously talented emerging artists.
The aim of the exhibition is to capture a sense of peace. Each artist expresses their striving for serenity in a uniquely individual way, which gives the exhibit depth and diversity.
The artists involved are: Agnes Heinz, Anja Weihe, Astrea Weihe, Regine Kröger, Vernon Swart, Johan van der Merwe, Marguerite Holtzhausen, Megan Fritz and Terry de Vries. Each of their works has a common theme of quietude, whether depicted in the sensations one gets during yoga, or from nature and other peaceful surroundings.
The show’s opening coincides with the popular First Thursdays evening, which involves select participating galleries staying open until 9pm. Aside from the former, the exhibition also purposefully ties into the winter solstice, which falls on Sunday, 21 June. Additionally, this is the date for International Yoga Day, and the display will form a tranquil background to a yoga event held in celebration of this.
Do note that opening night will go ahead regardless of Eish-kom’s load shedding schedule – apparently the artworks look even better by candlelight!
