Goudini Spa: Still Perfect For a Relaxed Family-Friendly Holiday

There are four heated pools, plus a host of other activities

If you grew up on family camping or caravan trips, a getaway to ATKV Goudini Spa is going to bring back all the memories. 

There are the much-loved hot pools (one even has a waterslide). There’s also a tennis court, putt-putt, a games arcade, trampolines, a holiday entertainment programme, camping and braai facilities, and more. All surrounded by the Boland mountains (where you can hike) and close to some lush vineyards (wine tasting, anyone?). And only an hour from Cape Town in peaceful Rawsonville. 

“Goudini is family-friendly and caters for all,” says marketing manager, Ranaldo van Rooy. “Parents can relax, knowing that their kids are safe in a healthy environment. There are various things to do on the resort to keep everyone busy, and our friendly staff makes guests feel at home and part of the Goudini family,” he says.

MELT THE WINTER BLUES AWAY
There are four heated pools (plus an indoor one) filled with natural spring water to soak in. “All our pools are naturally heated between 23 ℃ and 38 ℃,” says van Rooy. “We try to control the temperature as best we can through slowing the flow of the water to the pools.” 

There are also three jacuzzis at the indoor pool (each with space for four people), and a 10-seater jacuzzi at the beauty clinic, where you can indulge in some serious head-to-toe pampering.

HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT
When the kids aren’t splashing around, there are trampolines and an entertainment room for them that includes a pool table and arcade games. 

During school breaks and long weekends, Goudini Spa runs an extensive holiday programme that includes different games for toddlers, teens and adults. There’s the in-house entertainment team plus a variety of acts from all over the country, including yoga instructors, snake handlers, puppet and magic shows. 

“We also get some big names in the music industry during peak times,” says van Rooy. “Artists that have performed at the resort over the past couple of years include Nur Abrahams, Alistair Iszobel, The Rockets and Majozi.” 

 Be sure to check out the Saturday night karaoke as well as December talent nights and other family-orientated competitions.

FROM CAMPING UNITS TO 4-STAR VILLAS
Goudini Spa offers a variety of self-catering accommodation for all budgets, with 185 units to choose from (2–8 sleepers). All units are fully equipped, including braai facilities, DSTV and kitchen utensils. They also offer day camping and can accommodate around 25 families.

Apart from the apartments and rondavels, there’s a complex where 3-star units are built around a private swimming pool. Braai facilities and a lapa make it ideal for conference groups. You can also bring your tent or park your caravan at one of the camping spots, where there are well-maintained ablution and washing up facilities.

On the slopes of the mountain lies the spa’s 4-star Slanghoek Villas, with panoramic views of the Breedekloof Valley. These six-sleeper, four-star units consist of three bedrooms (each with its own veranda) and two bathrooms. There is air conditioning in the master bedroom and living area, a fireplace in the lounge, and a covered braai on the veranda – ideal for sundowners while taking in the view of the valley. 

HOST YOUR FUNCTION OR WEDDING AT GOUDINI SPA
Goudini Spa’s eight conference centres can accommodate up to 800 people and they all vary in size and layout. But the jewel of the resort is the stunning Slanghoek Conference Centre, which can seat up to 100 people and has its own restaurant and bar. It’s also ideal for a wedding reception, and the centre is walking distance from the Slanghoek Villas, so guests or delegates can stay the night and take advantage of the resort’s facilities.

You can also come for the day to enjoy Goudini Spa’s weekly Sunday buffet. If you are planning your wedding, keep in mind that the bridal couple gets a free stay in the Slanghoek Villas.
