Grand Tea Party at the Mount Nelson Hotel

Everyone needs a good cup of tea and a piece of cake (and a cucumber sandwich) every once in awhile

On Saturday, 22 July 2017, James House Child and Youth Care Centre are hosting their annual fundraiser, but this time the event is taking place at the iconic Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Gardens. This stunning venue will provide the backdrop for this charitable high-tea event.

James House Child and Youth Care Centre is a children's charity located in Hout Bay. It was started in 1986 as an organisation that worked with children in need from the Hout Bay area. James House runs five main programmes; Isibindi, BEST, STARS, Champions and Training. Isibindi focuses on caring for the children left vulnerable by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa. BEST stands for Building Emotionally Strong Teens, and STARS stands for Systematic Treatment for Adolescents with behavioral challenges in a Residential Setting. Champions focuses on preventing children dropping out of school and reintegrating the children that have dropped out. Finally, Training attempts to model the best processes for child protection strategies. All of the money from the event will go directly to James House, and they will use it to further achieve their goals. The more money they have, the more children's lives they can affect positively.

The event will also boast a very special guest; Grizelda Grootboom. This Cape Town mother lived a nightmare when she was sold into slavery. She recently published a tell-all book called Exit! and she will be in attendance to talk about her experiences, and hopefully prevent other women from falling victim to the same circumstance.

The Grand Tea Party will see charitable individuals relax and enjoy the Mount Nelson’s stunning gardens. Guests can sip on tea or coffee, and indulge in the most delicious spread of both savoury and sweet foods on offer.
