Exercise; let’s be real – it’s not everyone’s (irrespective of age) cup of tea. Often associated with burning lungs and sweaty foreheads, it’s a serious no-go for the majority. But what if I told you there’s a brand-new one-of-a-kind indoor centre where playing in itself is exercising and exercising is, well, fun. You’d want to go there, wouldn’t you?
Thanks to the fresh-out-the-box Pinelands-based indoor family fun park called be.UP Park – which strives to introduce Capetonians to a unique approach of working out while having oodles of fun – the possibility of being active while having a great time has become far more than just plausible. Comprising colourful 8m tall climbing walls, rows of horizontal and inclined trampolines, a 5m high aerial obstacle course and a puzzling maze – exercising while having fun is now a reality!
Set up in a massive, high-ceilinged building, be.UP Park, which opened in June 2016, is everything you want it to be (and so much more!) From the moment you enter the venue, it’s as if you’ve been transported to a faraway land – a brightly coloured wonderland of sort, where playing and exercising are one. Everywhere you look there is something new and exciting to climb up, bounce on, crawl through or swing on creating a smorgasbord of activities suitable for all ages. Sky-high vibrant coloured climbing walls and poles stand tall in the centre framed by bouncing trampolines to the right, elevated obstacle courses suspend above while a large multi-coloured maze sits to the left – it’s definitely possible to work every muscle here!
Let’s unpack be.UP Park:
The Trampoline Zone
Open and spacious comprising interconnected horizontal and inclined trampolines, this zone is perfect for jumpers of all ages (over 120cm in height). Visitors are encouraged to jump, twist, flip and flop from one trampoline to the next. Thanks to two performance tramps (ideal for those with an experienced spring in their step) and elastic walls at varying heights, jumpers are able to launch themselves through the air and complete their finest trick before landing in be.UP Park’s large, soft and safe air Big-Bag (a giant airbag of sorts). What’s more, the trampoline zone has been known to host a couple dodge ball games too!
The AltiGame
This five metre-high, French-inspired aerial play area invites individuals of all ages (over 120cm in height) to walk on planks, crawl through barrels and even ride a skateboard attached to a wire. Suspended 5 metres in the air, the course is designed to boost your imagination, coordination and challenge your physical abilities. Do note: there is a giant safety net below to catch you should you tumble and fall.
Clip ‘n Climb
So much more than just your average indoor rock climbing, be.UP Park’s New Zealand-inspired Clip ‘n Climb – a first of its kind in Africa – offers visitors over the age of three the incredible opportunity to ,as the name suggests, just clip themselves in and simply climb! Decked with 11 different climbing walls and poles up to 8 metres tall, each structure is equipped with an auto belay system ensuring that you get the most of your climbing experience! For those not in the know, an auto belay system is a device that eliminates the need for a human belayer – or partner at the bottom tightening the rope slack as you climb – and instead takes the slack of the rope as the climber ascends and controls the descent when the climber reaches the top or even falls.
Kids’ Maze
This massive multi-layered puzzle area, filled with brightly coloured tubes, tunnels, ball ponds, trampolines and slides, gives little ones the chance to climb, jump, slide and crawl around in a safe and secure environment. Parents are welcome to join in on the fun and play with their kids; otherwise, be.UP Park staff members are also always around keeping a watchful eye. What’s more, the Kids’ Maze also includes a dedicated soft play area for the really little-ly little ones.
With a key focus on building a strong connection between families, be.UP Park strives to create an all-inclusive space comprising multiple facilities where children and parents (as well as everyone else) can play and have fun together all under one roof (the park is wheelchair friendly and has access to the building via a ramp). For those, however, who would rather watch from afar, the upstairs be.Café (complete with Wi-fi, plug points, a small snack selection and great-tasting coffee and panoramic views of the entire activity area below) is the perfect place for parents to keep an eye on their children from above while they have a whale of a time below. Do note: there is limited wheelchair access to the café area.
So next time you are looking for a fun and engaging way to get your body moving (sweaty foreheads might still be a thing though) or need to get the kids out the house to run off some extra steam give be.UP Park a try. You won’t be disappointed.
NOTE: Safety always comes first. Depending on the play area, visitors are required to wear certain be.UP Park safety gear in the form of a harness and be.UP closed safety shoes at the Clip ‘n Climb zone (provided by the park), be.UP Park closed safety shoes and helmet in the Altigame area (provided by the park) and be.UP grip socks everywhere else – the Kids’ Maze and Trampoline Zone (these can be purchased on entry for only R20 a pair and can be reused).
Tip: Host your next function at be.UP Park. Ideal for kids birthday parties (there are three different birthday packages as well as venues suitable for a maximum of 25 children), corporate or team building events (specific areas or the entire park can be booked for private events) as well as an array of other occasions – think end of year parties, youth groups, school field trips and so much more. Be.UP Park will help create the perfect events package to suit your specific event and budget. For more information, please call +27 (0) 21 532 1169 or make an enquiry on be.UP Park’s website.
