Leather Crafting Workshops at Ilundi

Learn how to make your own stunning clutch and coin purse from locally sourced leather

Everyone has a go-to bag; whether it’s a weekender, a tote, a clutch or a satchel, a bag is always needed. Cape Town boasts some awesome leather crafting businesses and one of the best is Ilundi! On Sunday, 27 August 2017, Ilundi are hosting their next leather crafting workshop at their Salt River studio.

Ilundi uses local labor and locally sourced leather to create beautiful products that everyone can enjoy. The price of a leather item is usually higher than normal handbags because they last so long; they are sturdy and durable, while still retaining their distressed style.

This workshop will give you an introduction to leathercrafting where you’ll also learn the history of the trade and the different types of leather you can use. The crafters at Ilundi will teach you how to make your own clutch and a coin purse, using tanned leather. Safia and Brando Tucker will be taking you through the process, and they are experts in the field!

Included in the cost of your workshop is all the material you might need, a leather notebook and pencil, snacks, a light lunch, warm drinks, PDF copies of printable patterns, all the products you make during the workshop and after-care leather products. During the workshop you’ll learn leather cutting, pattern tracing, hand punching, hand stitching, hand dyeing, edging and finishing.
