Mofunk |
Come on down to funky town once again, because Mofunk is back with its 154th party, happening on Friday, 16 December 2016 at The Bank. That’s right foxy ladies and groovy gents – due to popular demand everyone’s favourite disco do will be taking over the city with big beats and even bigger soul. Can you dig it?
Fresh from their most recent event in Qatar, the long-established and grooviest disco is back in the Mother City. For 18 years, Mofunk has brought the funk and soul to Cape Town. Since exploding onto the Cape Town nightlife scene back in 1998, more than 832 000 people have attended the Mofunk 70s-themed disco parties that have entertained groovy gig-goers in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
Since starting out at the original venue on Long Street, Mofunk has grown to become a national and international sensation. The disco has been held in the UAE several times, and one of the highlights was being nominated for the Best Urban Event 2012 by Time Out Magazine in Dubai after the successful launch at the Atlantis Hotel on The Palms on Nasimi Beach, which was attended by 6000 revellers.
Paying homage to true legends such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Dianna Ross and James Brown, the Mofunk DJs have always delivered the hottest disco inferno to cities across the world. The style and atmosphere at the parties are a true throwback – a winning combination that is still popular to this day.
This time around the original Mofunk selectors join forces once more to deliver funk on a roll. The roster includes Omar Hendrix, who keeps the tempo up with a solid P Funk vibe and early 80s disco burners, followed by The Boogieman, dropping solid funk classics and slow burners. Completing the circle is Mr Mo - the founder of Mofunk. Bring those dancing shoes and soulful outfits because this boogie will burn late into the night.
The venue is one of the last grand Art Deco buildings in South Africa; The Bank boldly sits on Queen Victoria Street opposite the Company’s Garden. A space once occupied by tellers, notes, coins and a vault, The Bank opens itself up as a versatile venue of grandeur and opulence. A 160-square metre hall with a domed ceiling, arched windows, solid teak doors, wood panelling and white stucco plastered walls lends this 1937 building to the very heart of the discerning clubber.
Mofunk celebrates the very soul of the Motown era, ranging from soul classics and disco anthems to rare funk tracks. This popular party redefines the idea of a good time, adding a stylish twist with the music of yesteryear. So, grab your mates and get ready for the glitter-ball of dance parties.
