Best-kept secret for parents, Mini Explorers Kids’ Club

Only R150 to access Cape Town’s cool family perks

Last updated: Tuesday, 15 April 2025

There’s a Kids Club that’s not just about keeping kids busy, but also gives them activities that spark their curiosity, challenge them, and that they’ll feel proud to have accomplished.

They keep track of these mini adventures, like digging for jewels at Scratch Patch, in a yellow passport (just the right size for their little hands). Parents get perks, too. For every stamp that goes in the passport, they unlock rewards – like free ice cream, discounts, Aquarium memberships, and vouchers.

SO MANY PERKS & ACTIVITIES

With the Mini Explorers Club passport in hand, the V&A Waterfront becomes their playground, each stamp a moment of achievement for them and a saving for you.

Your kids will be challenged to snap shots in front of a shark exhibit at the Two Oceans Aquarium, or jot down curious things they’ve spotted on The Waterfront Duck, where they get free entry for every paying adult.

When they create their own slime during Slimetime at Artjamming, you’ll get 25% off your ticket.

Plus 10% off at Cave Golf and 10% off at Scratch Patch, where they’ll search for nine different gemstones and colour them in on their passport.

And parents can join them as they hunt for clues and try new things. Like stand-up paddling at SUP, for example, where you get 50% off a session.

Don’t forget to reward them with a free Wedgewood ice cream. They qualify for one after completing a bee counting activity at their emporium.

JOIN THE KIDS CLUB IN 3 STEPS

The Kid’s Passport pays for itself. Consider that you go to the V&A and do one of the activities, like a SUP lesson (which is usually R650 for adults, but is now half price with the discount). That, including a free ice cream (R85 for two scoops), will save you R410.

That more than covers the Kids Club once-off cost of R150.

  1. Register on the V&A Waterfront’s Mini Explorers website page

  2. Head to the V&A info kiosk (above Pick n Pay) to pay the R150 fee by card. Parents, don’t forget to bring your proof of identity. The person who registers will need to collect the passport.

  3. You’ll be handed the Mini Explorers Passport and your kid can start collecting their adventure stamps.

KIDS WITH PASSPORTS CAN WIN PRIZES

There’s also a Mini Explorers Club app which will guide club members to various locations with rewards and passport-holder-only competitions. It adds an extra layer of excitement to the Mini Explorers experience.

Families stand a chance to win amazing prizes. Each week, you could win:

  • One of five Two Oceans Aquarium annual memberships

  • One of three R3 000 Waterfront gift cards

  • One of three R600 Yokico gift vouchers

  • One of five R300 Karibu vouchers

  • One R2 000 Freedom of Movement voucher

  • One R1 500 Zahava voucher

For the grand prize, there’s a R10 000 V&A gift card and a Woolworths kids hamper.
