What it looks like, where to get it + visit its new monument
Last updated: Friday, 2 June 2023
Yair Shimansky, founder and CEO of Shimansky Diamond Jewellers, launched the life-sized version of the Cape Town Ring on 31 May 2023, the only ring of its size in the world representing a city. The signature jewel of the Mother City was launched nine months ago. “A beautiful place deserves a beautiful ring,” said Yair Shimansky at the first launch. Here’s everything you need to know about the Cape Town Ring and its new monument.
Imagine standing by one of the world's largest rings with Table Mountain right behind it. Shimansky unveiled the Cape Town Ring monument at the V&A Waterfront, with special guest speakers Mayoral Committee Member Aldermen James Vos and Alex Kabalin, Executive Director of Retail at the Waterfront.
The monument proudly stands at the Silo District, diagonally across from the Zeitz Mocaa. It’s the only ring of its size in the world representing a city, at three metres high and three metres wide. You can go visit the monument and potentially plan your future proposal there.

Colour, culture, cuisine and trust – this is what the ring represents. Mimicking Shimansky’s Table Mountain Ring, this new beauty has a symbol of the ocean as well. “It showcases more than just the mountain Cape Town is famous for, but the city as a whole,” says Giselle Esau, the previous executive head of brand and marketing at Table Mountain Cableway.
You see the skyline of Table Mountain, then you have the shoreline of the sea connecting as two bands come together with “Cape Town” engraved into the ring.

Everyone will find a ring that suits them, no matter your gender, style or budget. It comes in silver as well as 14 carat yellow, white or rose gold. There are 3 settings, plain (with no diamond), Swiss (one diamond stud) and pavé (a full row of diamond studs). Each setting has a different price, and there are two versions to choose from.
“When will I wear it? Probably all the time because it’s such an easy, almost casual but still sassy and classy ring,” says multimedia personality Tarryn Kay Trussel van Louw (@tkskingdom).

Founder Yair Shimansky started selling jewellery at a flea-market 30 years ago and has a vast knowledge of all things diamond, Tanzanite, platinum, gold and silver. There are a few Shimansky stores here and in New York, but you can only buy this ring at the store in Cape Town. Decorated in classic white, grey and black marble tile with lavish couches and chairs, the luxurious store at the V&A Waterfront is an entire experience on its own.

This is what our readers had to say when we posted the launch of the ring: “Elegance with perfection,” commented Mpho Khoza, and “the ideal reminder of home”, according to Kate Ashman. Watch our reel of the ring launch at the Norval Foundation.
“I love that no matter where in the world you are, you will always have Cape Town right there with you,” says Mandi Jarman, sales and marketing manager of City Sightseeing at the launch itself.
