All residents and visitors can access bus on 19 March 2017
Last Update 16 March 2017
Good news for all Capetonians this weekend as the MyCiTi bus service will be free for all commuters; both residents and visitors of The Mother City on Sunday 19 March 2017. The service currently covers 40 routes across the city, with 42 stations and more than 700 bus stops that are available for all commuters.
The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport and Urban Development, Councillor Brett Herron said that this is, “a great opportunity for residents and tourists to get first-hand experience of how easy and convenient it is to use the MyCiTi service to go places around Cape Town.”
The free travel option will be available from the morning, when the service commence until the evening when the last buses depart. To travel you will not need a myconnect card as per usual and as an added bonus, travellers can make as many trips as they wish on any bus and any route.
The free travel day coincides with a few events which are occurring on the weekend namely; Table Bay Nature Reserve having a free access weekend pass for all who wish to visit it as well as the opening of the exhibition for the proposals of the Foreshore Bridge. For more options see our list of what's happening in the city and surrounds, to make full use of the free travel on the day.
The six proposals that the City has received from the private sector for the development of the Foreshore Freeway Precinct in the Cape Town central business district will be on display at the exhibition. Councillor Herron stated that, “The exhibition is open to the public on Sunday 19 March 2017 from 08:30 to 16:00. I encourage residents to make use of the free MyCiTi service to visit the Civic Centre in Hertzog Boulevard to view these proposals and to tell us what they think.”
Further, the Table Bay Nature Reserve will be hosting an open weekend to coincide with the Milnerton Aquatic Club’s 24-hour endurance sailing challenge at the Rietvlei Water Area on 18 and 19 March 2017.
All new traveller who wish to travel on the MyCiTi service in the future can get a free myconnect card at the Civic Centre and Table View stations. Traveller should bring identity documents and R30 with them to get a myconnect card already loaded with 30 Mover points.
