Thin-crust pizza, burgers, craft beer on tap, quiz nights, a rooftop deck + more
Last updated: Tuesday, 9 November 2021
Picture this: al fresco dining on a rooftop, eating thin-crust pizza, glass of craft beer in hand and gorgeous views of Table Mountain. That’s Oblivion Bar & Kitchen, Claremont’s best kept secret.
Now that’s what you call dinner with a view. Image: Oblivion Bar & Kitchen
Oblivion’s rooftop deck has fantastic views of Lion’s Head and Table Mountain. During the day it’s lovely and sunny (if the weather obliges), and in the evening it turns into a romantic, ambient venue, with fairy lights that bathe the area in a soft, warm glow.
When the sunlight hits just right, the deck has a particularly enticing vibe. Image: Oblivion Bar & Kitchen
If the weather’s windy or rainy, opt for the bar’s sunny downstairs seating area right by the tempting display of baked goods or the cosy upstairs area with a fireplace.
Order a coffee and freshly baked pastry to go or stop for breakfast. Options include a Salmon Bagel Benny, a bagel topped with salmon, 2 poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and fresh rocket. For lunch there are many toasted sandwich options made with your choice of ciabatta, sourdough or health bread, or lighter bites such as the jalapeño poppers, Greek meze or nachos.

The dinner menu includes burgers and thin-crust pizzas. Try the Jamming on Brie burger with a beef patty or grilled chicken breast, your choice, topped with chilli-plum jam, bacon and brie. For pizza, the Diablo, with beef, chorizo, peppadews, onion and fresh chilli is sensational.
Satisfy that rumbling tummy with a burger and chips or a variety of pizzas. Image: Oblivion Bar & Kitchen
For a sweet ending to the night, the pistachio-and-dark-chocolate ice cream with a waffle is decadent, while the lemon tart with chantilly cream is lovely and zesty.
So many tempting desserts to choose from, you might as well order more than one. Image: Oblivion Bar & Kitchen
Every Monday, you and a team can put your smarts to the test at quiz night, which focuses on a range of topics from Disney, literature and music to history and marine life. Bring your entry fee of R30 cash along with you.
Oblivion serves the proudly Capetonian Barking Dog Beer. The bar is a great venue to watch the next Springbok game, with a cold beer in hand, or to have sundowners on the deck upstairs and watch the sunset over Table Mountain. The bar also serves a selection of cocktails.
