If it’s laugh-a-minute theatrical entertainment you’re after you can’t afford to miss Nunsense at the Milnerton Playhouse. Catch it on selected dates between Friday, 6 April and Saturday, 21 April 2018. The show first played in 1985 Off-Broadway in New York.
It’s been described as “wacky and outrageous with [an] anything-goes sense of fun”.
Nunsense tells the hilarious story of five of the 19 surviving Sisters of the Holy Cross Convent, which ran a leper colony on an island in the south of France. The sisters discover that it was one of their own, Sister Julia the cook, who accidentally killed the other 52 residents.
But then Mother Superior is divinely advised to start an online e-card mailing website, which turns out to be successful. What follows is more hilarity, a Samsung 85-inch LED TV screen for the convent and dead nuns on ice in the deep freeze.
With characters as colourful as stained-glass windows, look out for streetwise Sister Robert Anne or Sister Mary Leo, whose aspirations to be the world’s first ballerina nun is as endearing as it is ridiculous.
Interestingly, Nunsense is currently the second longest running off-broadway musical and winner of four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards including Best Musical, so make sure you don’t miss it.
The shows run from 6 to 21 April 2018, with a show on Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 2:30pm and 8pm.
