Paradise City at ERA nightclub

Embrace the wave of electronic tunes hitting the decks and washing over you at the futuristic venue

One of Cape Town’s most sizzling spots in the CBD, ERA ,is a  stylish nightclub on Loop Street. Earlier this year, we were given the sad news that it will be closing soon. Opened back in 2014, ERA will be gone too young. Make the most of its remaining time by heading out to Paradise City’s party on Saturday, 8 July 2017, which will be taking over the club for the night and celebrating its life with music.

Paradise City are the organisers of events that attract all the edgy kids in town and feature high-calibre local DJs. You may be familiar with their summertime series that got everyone jamming out in the sun during the hot seasons, Pool Party. Summer is over, but luckily Paradise City doesn’t hibernate - they just move to indoor venues to continue the fun. Regular attendees of their affairs are referred to as ‘citizens’ and anyone is welcome to become one.

One this particular night, two rooms will be temporarily transformed into magical Paradise City domains. One is a warm, inviting space you can shake to groovy tunes in, the other an intense dance music rave to get the blood pumping and hearts pounding with passion and movement.

Deck-spun electronic beats vibrating in your ears are going to be the order of the day. It’s winter so the DJs will be there to keep you jamming and staying warm (and maybe getting a little sweaty). You will have likely heard the sounds of several of these maestros before.

Here’s the line-up, in no particular order:

  • Daddy Warbucks

  • Tomas Kranenburg

  • Stone-Age Citizens

  • Tommy Gun

  • BRONSON

  • Dodge

A little something about BRONSON, who is also one of Paradise City’s co-founders:
This Capetonian artist takes inspiration from Tech House as the foundation of his individual sound brand. Chameleon-like in his ability to adapt to his surroundings, he transitions between playing at nightclubs like ERA, Deuce Bar and Fiction, to AfrikaBurn, and Paradise City; leaving a sea of dancing and stomping bodies in his wake. Along with the massive yearly festival, AfrikaBurn, BRONSON has played at Kinky Summer, The Eden Experience and several other fests. See for yourself what this music master is all about on the night.

ERA, as we mentioned before, is a nightclub passionate about beats of the electronic kind. Electro is emulated, not just the tunes the club’s patrons dance to, but the visual too and the atmosphere of the space as a whole. Electronic music is a lifestyle and ERA provides a place to temporarily escape from reality by getting immersed in sound for a night. ERA has also been focused on encouraging the development of electronic music in the city, by showcasing local talented DJs who work with the genre. It’s a two-storey set-up and leads something of a double-life; being also a tapas bar by day between Tuesdays and Fridays.

ERA keeps it classy and there is a semi-formal dress code for the nightclub. So get your (fairly) fancy sophisticate on and leave those caps, shorts and sandals at home.

Women under the age of 21 and men under 23 years of age aren’t allowed into the nightclub - baby faces, you’d best bring along some ID as a safety net.

TICKETS FOR THE 2017 PARADISE CITY PARTY AT ERA

You can buy tickets to this rad event online via Quicket.co.za. Hurry- they’ve released the early-citizen tickets, which naturally sell like hotcakes (why hotcakes are apparently so popular we don’t know, but we know why Paradise City is). These are going for a mere R60p/p!

If you miss these, you’ll also have a (limited) chance to secure a normal-citizen pass for yourself for R90p/p. And  if you’re a spontaneous soul who shows up a little late to the party, you’ll be able to buy a late-citizen ticket for R120p/p.

If you want to know more about what the vibe is going to be like and what Paradise City is all about, please don’t feel shy about contacting the organisers via their email address, paradisecityza@gmail.com.

If you’re unfamiliar with the venue and wondering what you’ve been missing out on, take a pre-party sneak peak at ERA nightclub.
