Pinocchio at The Playhouse Theatre in Somerset West

Enjoy this fairy-tale classic with a twist!

From Thursday, 17 to Saturday, 19 August 2017 the Playhouse Theatre in Somerset West is re-working the popular story of Pinocchio. Audiences will meet new and fun characters as well as the classic characters associated with this heartwarming fairytale.

Did you really think it was going to be that simple? Not today Folks. This version of Pinocchio starts with two old ladies who receive an iMac computer as a gift and have absolutely no idea what it’s for, or how to use it. They stumble across YouTube with the machine’s mouse, which they affectionately call ‘rat’... We can’t tell you what else unfolds but we guarantee that you will be riveted. Don’t worry though, Pinocchio and Gepetto are there too, though they find themselves inside a whale, and later in a puppet theatre! Take a little trip down memory lane with this clip:

The students at Kelly’s Amateur Drama School have been working hard to bring this awesome production to life. This version of Pinocchio was scripted by Daniel Geldenhuys and directed by Kelly Westraad. It is based on Carlo Collodi’s classic, but the creatives behind this production are offering audiences the chance to see a totally modern retelling. Nobody has ever seen Pinocchio like this…

The cast includes Desle McConney, Ameera Juta, Dean Van Der Ventel and Elton John Duffy. This production has a limited run, so make sure you grab your tickets and head out to Somerset West for an evening of fairy-tale hilarity and a showcase of local talent!
