A plunge pool on the upper deck, a spa + deluxe suites
Sonja Nel art, living, green plant walls in the reception area next to the courtyard with gigantic trees, and sunbeds upstairs overlooking a heated pool are hallmarks of Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel.
This Kloof Street gem, opposite The Power & The Glory and just above EL Burro Taqueria, is an unexpected oasis of guaranteed Insta-worthy views – it has two pools (one with a jacuzzi alongside), the Deluxe Spa & Hair Salon and a rooftop bar serving fresh sushi and tapas specials.

This 55-roomed boutique hotel was created by connecting five Victorian heritage buildings. The hotel was also modernised, and incorporates elements of South African heritage and culture in the artwork and decor throughout the rooms and reception areas, plus there’s a spa. It's the section of the hotel you'll pass first along Kloof Nek Road. Glance inside, and you'll see a soft pink blossom tree towering over the numerous hair, nail and facial treatments.

To help you get your bearings, a host will walk you through the roomy, quirky hotel first. Turn left, and you’ll find yourself on the lower sundeck. Turn right, and you’re met with a hallway of vibrant art pieces from Sonja Nel, Tony Gum, Glen Tong and Tenday Navhira. Climb a flight of stairs, and you’ll get to the Mountain Rooftop Bar, where you can have a drink at a table, basking in upbeat tunes and 360-degree mountain views.

Accommodation options at Cloud 9 range from the cosy Classic rooms recommended for those travelling in pairs; Heritage Classic rooms with XL king or twin beds for families; or Heritage Deluxe rooms with a more spacious living area, en-suite bathrooms, and optional balconies.

A visit to Cloud 9 is not complete without spending time on its famous Mountain Club rooftop. The panoramic view of Cape Town is one of the best in the city. Drink a cocktail on the roof while the sun sets on the city in the background, and share one of the signature sourdough pizzas. You can still use the pool even if you aren't staying at Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel. There is just a minimum spend of R200 per person.

You could also take advantage of the weekday sushi and tapas specials: Mondays from 4pm to 7pm enjoy half-price on a wild rocket and red onion beef burger, the Italian pizza with salami and caramelized onion or another hefty main.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same time, enjoy the half-price tapas special with potato truffle fries, BBQ teriyaki wings and sesame-crusted tuna options while Wednesdays and Sundays are saved for their sushi special. Afterwards, guests can take a warm dip, no matter the season, in the heated plunge pool with a cocktail from the Mountain Club.
The hotel is on buzzing Kloof Nek Road in Tamboerskloof – a trendy suburb at the foot of the city's iconic mountains. A short stroll will take you to Kloof Street, with its restaurants and bars, grocery stores and clothing boutiques. Also within walking distance are Long and Bree street, where Cape Town's nightlife thrives. Another convenience worth noting is that a MyCiti bus stop, which can take you to Table Mountain or Camp's Bay, is situated right next to the hotel.

Cloud 9 is also within walking distance of a range of restaurants. Enjoy one of Cape Town's famous craft beers at The Power & The Glory across the road, taste the wines from an expertly curated wine list at Publik Wine Bar, or order a pre-dinner aperitif at Kyoto Garden, which is just down the street from the hotel.
