Lower Kloof Street is a self-contained street in Cape Town that caters for all your lifestyle needs, whether you want to do your weekly food shop, spend a lazy Saturday afternoon shopping, watch a movie with your partner or dine out, it’s all there. Whilst taking a stroll up Kloof Street, we discovered a wealth of unique stores, where you can find one-of-a-kind t-shirts, Czech crystal, 60’s inspired furniture and homegrown wine that you wouldn’t find at your average supermarket. You can quite easily spend the entire weekend walking less than a kilometre up this inspirational street and here is a selection of the best places to visit.
Mozzarella Bar
Giorgio Nava's new venture is the first Mozarella bar to open in South Africa. Choose a ham, tomato and mozzarella panzerotto or sink your teeth into a deep-fried fior de latte sarnie from their uncomplicated and healthy menu.

Poppa Trunks
This store is for men of all ages who refuse to wear black clothing. This funky store stocks sunglasses, high top 70’s sneakers and statement hats in all the colours of the rainbow. You’ll have all the boys whispering, ‘Where did he get that?’, if you step out in one of their Araina one-of-a-kind t-shirts, or a hoodie from Subconscious or Bunny Bunch. Check out the trendy speakers across the back wall, which will have you dancing around the shop.

Wardrobe
Wardrobe is a vintage mecca for female fashion lovers who want to add a glamorous statement to their wardrobe. Wardrobe sells designs under their own label, also named Wardrobe, and the owner plays a strong roll in the design process. The store also stocks Moth, a label which typically uses vintage leather and reworks from upholstery fabrics, and Meeks Knickers, a label which originates from East London.

Love Project
Love Project is a cute shop with an even cuter owner, Lize Engelbrecht, that will bring a splash of colour to your life, during the grey winter months. Love Project is a non-profit organization, opened in 2006, that offers skills training and creates job opportunities for the unemployed, through a number of projects. This idyllic store sells products from over 60 different community projects such as, key rings made at the Agape Refugee Centre, Cape Town, and felt hearts and animals made at the Heartfelt Project, in Makapaanstad.

No time for a Wine Tour? Then go to Wine Concepts at Lifestyles on Kloof for daily tastings. They also have wines that you won’t find in the supermarket, sourced from top wine estates Cederberg / Noble Hill and small independent garages. Mostly, they supply connoisseurs rather than mainstream customers.

Enjoy quality movies at reasonable admission prices on two trendy screens at Lifestyle on Kloof. Every Monday and Tuesday the motto is Lights! Dinner! Action! Zone Fitness
Believe it or not: Fitness can be fun. Offering many different sports classes like Yoga, Pilates, Body Conditioning or Power Box - this women’s only gym is a really nice place for your workout. Afterwards, you can relax with a coffee and fruit, or use their luxurious spa. If you opt for a longer contract, the price is cheaper (a 2-year contract costs R199/month) but you can also book for shorter periods of time (2 months costs R1025). Members get 10% off all hair and beauty treatments at Oshun Hair and Beauty.

Salon91 Contemporary Art
Definitely one of the hotspots on Kloof Street, Salon91 represents young South African artists and introduces them to the gallery system and supports their careers. The exhibition includes graduates from Stellenbosch, self-taught artists like Paul Senyol, street artists and more established artists such as Gabrielle Raaf (watercolour painter). The boutique gallery specializes in all mediums such as block print and painting and merges graphic art, design art and fine art as these styles work on the same principles.

Hudson's Burger Joint
Expect gourmet burgers with funky toppings – opt for a lamb, chicken, Ostrich or veggie burger, topped off with their signature beer battered onion rings. They also whip up some fantastic milkshakes and homemade ice cream. Whilst your tucking into your burger, prepare to be soothed by music from Johnny cash and unusual design features such as, seating like cardboard boxes.
