Paul Smith Shop in Cape Town

Lauded British fashion label launches a vibrant new clothing store on Bree Street

Already a household name in high fashion in countless top world cities (including Paris, Milan and South Africa’s own Johannesburg), iconic menswear designer Paul  Smith has a shop centred on everyday and stylish wear on Cape Town’s colourful Bree Street.

Previously located at the V&A Waterfront amidst other similar high-end outlets , the quirky CBD-based diffusion store – which was launched in November 2012 – has moved the emphasis away from formalwear and haute couture and towards more casual (yet no less stylish) men’s and women’s clothing that more closely echoes the Mother City lifestyle.

“We wanted the fashion to reflect the Cape Town environment and culture of dressing here,” explains Communications Manager Andrew Louw. “Similarly, the design of the store is also meant to reflect the vibrancy, energy and optimism of the city,” he continues.

Conceptualised and adorned by Sir Paul Smith himself, the corner shop boasts a bold cobalt blue exterior (a nod to the nearby Bo-Kaap district and its rows of colourful houses) and a playful, contemporary interior that comes complete with newspaper-inspired wallpaper, worn parquet flooring, chic wooden fittings and bright bursts of primary red, blue and yellow.

As for the specific items available for purchase in this fun, edgy environment? Customers can expect an assortment of trendy pieces from the Paul Smith Jeans men’s collection (think stylish jackets, trousers and polo shirts) and the Paul by Paul Smith women’s range (examples include cardigans, blouses, jeans and swimwear), alongside fine shoes, bright statement socks and an array of accessories, including  leather wallets, watches, belts, sunglasses and cufflinks.

Needless to say, the new Paul Smith shop on Bree Street is set to be the go-to store for discerning fashionistas seeking unique, top-quality casual wear and a memorable city centre shopping experience.

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 9am – 6pm; Saturday: 9am – 2pm; public holidays: 9am – 2pm.
