Bachelor Party Of Compassion.
Bachelor parties are known for their embarrassing escapades and creative costumes that the man of the moment has to encounter. These parties vary but they have one thing in common – unpredictability.
Kerwyn August, a 25-year-old from Mitchell’s Plain was preparing for his bachelor party that his friends planned. On the day of his stag, Kerwyn was dressed in a tutu and taken to Okavango Road in Brackenfell.
“I had to model my tutu, in hope that I impress the drivers stuck in traffic,” he chuckled.

Cars passing by caught a glimpse of the bachelor and his friends, and they contributed to the festivity with their cheers and R20 notes. This seemed like the ideal way to make money with little effort. Traffic got congested as people became curious and began giving money without even being asked.
“I never had to beg for the money. After a while, people called me to their cars to give me R10 or R20 notes.”
It was a hot day and people were in a joyful mood, but with all the celebrations nobody noticed a man begging for something to eat. While approaching one of the vehicles, Kerwyn noticed the thin figure holding up a sign at the traffic lights. What struck him was that after just 10-minutes, the bachelor had already accumulated R240, while people weren’t even willing to pay any attention to the begging man.

“It was at that moment that my friends and I decided to donate all the money to the poor gentleman,” August said.
The man had no expression and didn’t know how to react when he received the contribution. It was as if the man was not accustomed to kind and caring gestures.
Kerwyn, who is engaged to Samantha Davids, felt that he could set an example for those travelling on that road, passing the man: “I admit I had to fight my tears, which wasn’t the case for the beggar who had tears streaming down his face. Donating money towards a meal for this man was potentially the nicest thing I have done in my 25-years,” he modestly added.
What was supposed to be all fun and games, quickly became a life-lesson. It is now with great pleasure and privilege that we present Kerwyn August with the title of CapeTownMagHero.
