Step into yesteryear when visiting this hidden gem
Let’s be honest, old has definitely become the new ‘new’. Lately I’d find myself rummaging through my grandparents closet from time to time, in search of beautiful garments. It might be the essence a vintage item brings, it might be that it reminds us of a time when everyone took pride in each item they crafted.
Time was taken to loving craft the masterpieces that were created way back when, from the oh so elegant dresses and suits, to the curved and often flamboyant silhouette of automobiles - there is no denying the exquisite craftsmanship that went into making the simplest of items. It was a time that everything looked like a work of art and reminders surround us, we need only to look at the intricate architecture of the old buildings in the CBD.
It is through my appreciation for vintage items that I came across Die Handelshuis. Walking by the showroom, I knew this was the kind of place with a story to be told. Through its doors the remnants of yesteryear can be found in the form of furniture, new and old, and even a few exquisite vintage cars too. Inside this sanctuary for antiques each piece is well-preserved and ooze character.
The friendly staff at Die Handelshuis are exceptionally eager to share their knowledge of antiques. If you prefer furniture that is more contemporary, you’ll find it at the beautiful showroom too.
Die Handelshuis is also home to Le Cute, a little cafe inside of the store which serves homemade baked goods and fresh cups of coffee, perfect for a break in between browsing.
What we love that you can shop and enjoy a cup of coffee at the same time.
Our favourite treat was the fact that they sell vintage cars as well.
